Westport Winery earned seven top awards at the Savor Northwest Wine Competition held in Cannon Beach, Oregon, on March 8-10. Competition organizer, Gary Hayes, said it is “One of the largest competitions focusing on Northwest wines. The 2021 competition blind tasted more than 550 wines from Oregon, Washington and Idaho.”

Hayes further added that Westport Winery earned the most gold medals at the event along with two Best of Class awards for True Blue Malbec and Rapture of the Deep sparkling cranberry wine.

Nirvana, the winery’s popular GSM (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre blend) earned a double gold medal as did Shorebird Chardonnay, Maritime sparkling Riesling, and Going Coastal sparkling Gewurztraminer. Duckleberry Grunt, a Gewurztraminer blueberry blend, earned a gold medal.

The winery harvested their Malbec, Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre from Joe Hattrup’s Elephant Mountain and Sugarloaf Vineyards in the Rattlesnake Hills AVA. The Riesling and Gewurztraminer were grown at Washington’s historic Red Willow Vineyard in the Yakima Valley AVA. The Chardonnay was picked at Olsen Vineyards near Prosser, Washington, in the Columbia Valley AVA.

Each of Westport’s wines benefit different local charities: True Blue benefits North Beach PAWS, Rapture of the Deep benefits Harbors Home Health & Hospice, Nirvana benefits Grays Harbor PAWS, Shorebird benefits Grays Harbor Audubon, Maritime benefits the Northwest Carriage Museum, Going Coastal benefits the Ocean Interpretive Center, and Duckleberry Grunt benefits the Grays Harbor Chapter of Ducks Unlimited.

The winery has commissioned sculptures by local artists to commemorate each of their wines. There are now over 60 outdoor sculptures featured in the winery’s 15-acre display garden which is free to explore daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
