Oh for the old glory days. I miss the boats wildly.

I've been missing sailing lately. I think maybe I need to build one.

Back in the day my father built a 17' knockabout. We sailed that for years. It lookrd much like the Ketch save it had a boom and jib arrangement. Aye

Yeah, the gaff rig appeals to me. They call it a boom for a reason, but they have a better reason to call it a "conk".

Diminishing returns, no need for a big boat. 90% of the fun of sailing can be had with the first 16' of boat. More than that (with the possible exception of a bathroom) is just showing off. wink

I used to love waterskiing too... but I never got any good at slalom - could never get up on one ski, and never felt comfortable just dropping the extra one.

I couldn't get my fat ass out of the water with two skis!

After two summers of trying I finally got up. After the 2nd time around the lake they wanted me to go ashore. I kept waving "Go!"

Shoot! I'd been trying for two years and finally was skiing. I didn't want to stop. They made the sharp cut to shore but I didn't let go.

The ensuing "stone skipping" across the water of this 6'5" 18 year old, trying to look cool (but failing miserably) is still a conversation piece amongst some family members. It still hurts to think about it.

Moral: Let go!

Aaah. The "beach dismount". Skis don't skid across sand very well, do they? laugh

Fortunately, I didnt' make it to the beach. The driver turned sharply and instead of letting go, I held on and rolled on top of the water (I understand Jesus perfected this trick earlier) until my armpits could take it no longer. I think the whip action caused me to get near the sound barrier. They said they could see my screaming but couldn't hear it! shocked
