I think your thinking of Elizabeth Smart (?) from Utah? The weirdo couple took her. You just never know and as long as there's hope that's all you have to go on...hope can be the only strength to draw upon. My heart just aches for the family.

Yeah, E. Smart, that's it. But wasn't there another one recently found someone in Spokane or Idaho, maybe within the last year or so? I think her brother was killed by the abductor at some point? I don't know...

My heart aches, too. My heart also aches for the people who she was visiting as I'm sure the guilt, however unwarranted, will never be appeased for them.

Yes, the whackadoodle that killed the mother then took the two kids. He killed the little boy but, the girl was found. I think the girl's name was Shasta...can't think of the last name just now.

I cannot even allow my mind to go where these families' minds must wander when going through such ordeals.

I truly hope Lindsey's family will have her home with them soon.

Groene? Something like that, anyhow... The lack of any clues is terribly frustrating and heartbreaking.

Because of kids being found yrs after being kidnapped isn't it about time we start teaching kids about the lies the kidnapper will tell them. Such as - your parents don't want you, they gave me custody, they've stopped looking, etc.
That's what they do to keep the kid in line. Kids .
My grandsons now know to play along with the lies and the minute they get freedom to yell at the top of their lungs. Because we will never stop looking, we will always want them and never give up custody, and etc.

Excellent suggestion. One I've never thought of or heard of before.

When my kids were little we did the secret code...a word someone, even someone they knew, would have to tell them in order for them to know it was safe to go with them. And yelling "Fire" or "This isn't my dad/mom" instead of "Help" because it's said people respond better to those types of cries. We also practiced what they would do if someone stopped and asked for directions or help finding a lost dog or whatever.

Once the kids were out playing around the neighborhood and rushed home to tell me that a guy driving up and down the street in a van asked them for directions. I told them to stay in the house and went outside and stood on the curb as the van drove by again. Well, he didn't stop and ask me, an adult, for directions. Hmmmm...so I called the cops but I never heard anything back. Kinda spooky. I let the neighbors with kids know about it and tried to keep my eye out for several days afterwards for the van but never saw it again.

Anyway, good tip. I'll remember that to pass along to people I know with young kids in their lives and if I ever have grandkids.
