Who is this guy?

My mind started wandering at about 1:36. Could you give me the Cliff Notes?

Yeah. A public speaker he's not.

The upshot is that the bailout bill is primarily intended to use the taxes of working americans to bail out bankers and investors in europe and asia.

OK...I got that from the first 60 seconds. Just didn't know if I had missed anything else important.

I go back-and-forth on this issue because I'm not an economist and the details of this bore me a bit. I don't like information spoon-fed to me but, in this case, it's a requirement before I start drooling on myself.

So, just going from my gut which seems to be right more often than not, I oppose the current bailout or "rescue". When banks, investment companies, foreign investors, etc. screw up, why should they get rescued when I wouldn't get rescued if I invested in something that failed and lost my shirt? I'm all for doing things to help people restructure their mortgages if they are in danger of foreclosure. The caveat for this is that they have to only save people who were victims of predatory lending practices and who have the income to pay for the restructured mortgage. This is a type of bailout I could support.

Nothing for the big guys. No golden parachutes. Nada. They've already made the big bucks. If they can't make it on the millions they've already made, I don't feel sorry for 'em.

I just see the economic crisis in this country being the continual squeezing of the middle-class not lost profits for those who already are in the economic elite.

Of course, folks who lost their jobs and retirement funds, like the WaMu folks, is another issue that needs to be addressed.

One more thing....if my math is right, the $700billion could be distributed to every American in this country and we'd each get $200,000. Wouldn't that do more to kick-start the economy, help the average American (big time!), and create a strong middle class than this bailout?

People with foreclosure looming could pay a big chunk down to get a new mortgage that they could afford (and some could even pay off their mortgage).

People who are over-extended on consumer debt could pay it off, boost their savings, and maybe even purchase a few needed items that could kickstart the economy.

Students who are struggling to get funding to pay for college could pay their tuition and continue their education with fears for how they will pay those student loans in the future. Students who are getting grants to pay for school would no longer need those grants so funds from that program could be put toward other needs.

Yeah, some fools would just blow it but their spending spree would be a further boost to the economy.

Anyway you look at it, this would free up funds to increase spending and, in our capitalist economy, wouldn't this be the fuel we need right now?

Screw Wall Street. Screw foreign investors. For once, let's put the middle-class over the power brokers.

Ya know, if you all elected me Supreme Ruler of the Universe, we would all be much better off. <no winky face, I'm not joking>

Rant continued...

OK, MSNBC just flashed that the bailout includes:

$6 million to manufacturers of wooden arrows for kids! WTF? How many kids even play with wooden arrows these days?

$5 million to rum imports! Hey, I like rum but this is ridiculous. I think I'll boycott rum now. There are many other libations that can wet my whistle just fine.

What else is hidden in this damn bailout?

Hurray to Cantwell for voting no.

One thing I noticed in the Daily World teeny tiny column on the JP Morgan Chase buyout of WaMu, was that JP Morgan was hoping for the bailout, as they could then turn in all the bad loans FOR A CLEAR PROFIT.

That's right... the bailout will cause PROFIT to the large banking concerns that take over all the little banks.

Profiting from the misfortunes of others. I think that's a pretty bad deal.
