It is the most insecure browser available.

Quote:
SAN FRANCISCO – Microsoft says a security flaw in its Internet Explorer browser played a role in the recent computer attacks against Google and at least 20 other companies.

In a Thursday alert confirming the weakness, Microsoft said the security hole can be closed by setting browser's Internet security zone to "high." The world's largest software maker may also issue an update to fix the problem.

Microsoft pinpointed the trouble spot after Google announced earlier this week that hackers in China had pried into the e-mail accounts of human rights activists opposing the Chinese government's policies.

The attack outraged Google. It plans to leave China unless the government backs off rules requiring Google's Chinese search engine to censor some results.

I just created a website and I've come to discover that elements that look good in all other major browsers (Firefox, Safari, Opera, Chrome), often suck in IE. Damn MS.

My blog, built around a Wordpress template the style sheet of which I have extensively modified renders a bit different in IE than in FF.

MS refuses to use the same standards adopted by the other browser providers.

Maybe they're concerned incorporation of other standards may result in extensive brower and/or OS crashes.

*written after rebooting, again, with XP and IE*

Do you use a PC cleaner program, like CCleaner? If not give it a try to safely clean a whole bunch of useless crap from your machine. It even will search for problems in the "registry", whatever that is. And it's free.

yeah. I clean it. It doesn't crash as much as the sterotype. But, when I hear Mac's never crash, I have to wonder why PC's and, by extention MS-DOS can't fix it.

Mac's do crash, it's called the spinning wheel of death. Also most Mac fanboys/gals dont' like to mention that the Mac was the first to be hacked at last years security convention ( link).

CCLeaner is great, I would also reccomend Microsoft Security Essentials.

To the post at hand, I use a combo of IE and Chrome.

Good to know. Thanks. I did download CCleaner on a lark. It's pretty good.

I'm curious. When do you experience crashes? At startup or at random times?

At random times and, honestly, quite infrequently. What usually happens is the computer starts to slow down. I, then, usually delete all the TEMP files and clean out the recycle bin and a few other diddies and reboot. Then, all is well. A actual crash may occur 3 or 4 times a year... maybe. A lot of it depends on what Lil Stash has downloaded or what games he may have played and what buttons Mrs. Stash has accidently said, "Yes" to. But, we all have a cross to bear.

Loc: Heaven. Yeah, cool.
At the Daily World, my running joke centered around one particular Mac error message. Every so often for no reason the machine would crash and display "An unexpected error has occurred."

It happened frequently enough that I would sometimes say "don't lie to me, machine. There was nothing unexpected about it."

Little known fact, they originally wanted the error to read:
"ERROR ID10T: How the Hell did you cause a Mac to crash!?! Get off the internet and never return."
But it was decided that this may hurt sales and went with the more politically correct
"An unexpected error has occurred."
wink

Well! Hit me with a stupid stick. I've listened to too many Mac purists who praised the Mac for never crashing and other feats of wonder.

You know, the joke's on me: Randal Ainsworth never made sense on any other damn thing he said. Why would I think he had a clue on this one?
