DW report. It sounds like a tough situation handled professionally and humanely.

I also chuckled at that.
Really, this is, it seems to me from the DW report, one of those situations in which a police officer would be justified in blowing the guy away; but where the officers orchestrated a different outcome, both in the interests of the fellow with the loaded pants, the interests of the Sheriff's Dept., and in the interests of the community at large.
I hope neither deputy is ever faced with a situation where they must make the other choice.

In the westerns on the big screen, law enforcement personnel were sometimes referred to as "Peace Officers". This is an example of that, imo. But, the lead in this story is that both officers went home to their families. That they didn't justifiably blow away the disturbed individual with three loaded firearms, at least one of which was actually pointed at one of the officers, is only a slight bonus.

The lead might be that the officers went home to their families but it sure isn't hard to take out of this story that we have some pretty fine peace officers out there working for us. They did their job and saved at least one life. That is about as good as it gets.

I personally know of several incidents where Hoquiam Police Officers could have, and possibly should have, shot a person brandishing a weapon but chose to hold their fire. Our local police officers are definitely not "trigger happy."

I have a relative that used to do this kind of work and he is not a lot older than Paul. Confrontations like this sometimes have a victim but it is years later that it appears. Nightmares, stress, failed marriages and, in his case, a stroke in his middle thirties.
I have nothing but respect for people who can do this job and do it well. I don't take lightly what they put on the line and what they accomplish. Our community is lucky to have professionals doing that work.

Yup, great work. My kudos and respect for a job well done.
And much appreciation to the spouses and family of LE officers who are left at home to worry and pray that their loved one comes home after each shift. I'm sure that is a heavy burden.
