One week Democrats are saying they are going to pay as they go the next they borrow. Bunning is done after this term. He is risking nothing here demanding that those spendaholic Dems start behaving sensibly.
He has made a stand. This stand is going to cause some misery but compared to the miserable debt we are leaving our children this probably is insignificant.
Someone has to yell stop. Senator Bunning, now the least liked Senator in the country, is saying stop. I hope those objecting to his moves at least give him credit for taking a stand.
Franken, as usual, makes an assumption that he builds the rest of his argument on, principles that never change. Kentucky's Bunning probably played the game to be popular and be reelected. Now he is making a stand for what he really believes in. Principles evolve and every man has a point where he says "That's enough". Bunning is there now.
I don't like the misery he is causing but I applaud his stand.

Why do Democrats hate children and not take the money out of the stimulus funds as Bunning suggested. Why did they not concentrate on jobs instead of muddling around on less important things.

Bunning's actions have already cost thousands of workers their jobs, as part of the jobs bill continued some federal highway construction project. You didn't answer the question. You are applauding a man who is keeping millions of families from receiving any money. Millions of children are going to go hungry and possibly become homeless thanks to his "let them eat cake" attitude. This episode illustrates perfectly the complete lack of any moral compass of the Republican Party. It is a party entirely composed of liars, hucksters, perverts and hypocrites. Perhaps Sen. Bunning would care to do his part to "pay for the bill" by refunding the cost of his salary and benefits to the Treasury? No? Didn't think so.

You are applauding a man who is keeping millions of families from receiving any money. There is a procedure to get the money they want so one man cannot rule and Bunning has challenged them to use it. You fail to look beyond the tip of your nose to the future when we will not be able to help any of our families because we blew it. This is posturing and not permanent. I note you are still looking backwards to Bush. Pathetic. there were many ways in which Democrats could have passed the extension earlier. But then they would have missed the satisfaction of fighting with Bunning. Dana Milbank points out that the Democrats are getting a huge political lift from this and are slow to bull this thing on through. So, who is holding up the money?

You fail to look beyond the tip of your nose to the future when we will not be able to help any of our families because we blew it. You fail to look beyond the rhetoric of your wealthy white heroes. The best way to end the economic crisis is get the economy moving again. Best way to do that is get people spending money again. And the most efficient way to do both is unemployment benefits. People who are on unemployment use that money immediately, for food, gas, mortgage payments. That's one thing all economists agree on. Of course, your heroes would rather people suffer, and cause another Great Depression in the process. That's what's pathetic. I note you are still looking backwards to Bush. Pathetic.
If you lied to me yesterday, but claim to be telling me the truth today, I might try and remember yesterday.

There is a procedure to get the money they want so one man cannot rule and Bunning has challenged them to use it. Bunning is "single-handedly" obstructing the business of the Senate, for purely political purposes - and it's the democrats fault. That is a stunningly fatuous suggestion, one of the most fatuous I've ever heard. As the AP reports. Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said that he is working with Democrats to set up a vote to pass the legislation, which has been single-handedly held up by Sen. Jim Bunning, his homestate GOP colleague. Bunning has been blocking the bill because it would add $10 billion to the budget deficit.
--------- Earlier on Tuesday, Bunning objected to a request by Maine Sen. Susan Collins, a fellow Republican, to pass a 30-day extension of jobless benefits and other expired measures. The measure would also extend highway programs and prevent a big cut in Medicare payments to doctors.
When asked Tuesday if Bunning was hurting the Republican Party, Collins said, "He's hurting the American people."

Then, of course, there's Rule 22.
