So, the Dell PC goes to hell in a hand basket. Reboots to a blue screen with some codes. I've spent about 3 hours on the phone with the Dell folk talking with nice gentylemen who would talk too fast with their Indian accent to finally tell me my problem.

It seems my Windows became corrupt. How? No one knows. Probably not a virus.

So, I've discovered my poor back up plan... that is I've done no back up. I think I'll be able to get Grays Harbor Computer to back up my data on an external drive and then reinstall Windows.

To all: I don't know if it's going to work for me, but I know now it can happen to me. You should know it can happen to you. Back up your data. I don't want to lose all those pictures of the grandkids or all the Word documents we have.

Carbonite.com is the best money I spend every year. Not only does it do auto back ups once set up, but it's like a virtual hard drive. I can pull up all my files from anybody's computer.

Sure hope they save your stuff. Especially grandbaby pix!

The good folk at Grays Harbor Computer were able to get most of the files off the old dino Dell and onto the newer Dell. I miss the ease of my old desktop and bookmark file, etc. But, I'm sorting it out. I still don't have a decent back up system. Tell me more... here or PM regarding the new GH provider. If given a choice, I'd much rather do that than hook up with Huckabee's yahoos at Carbonite... and Carbonite may be hunkydorey for all I know. But, if someone local has a decent alternative, count me in.

I love Carbonite. My desktop bit the big one a few days ago. I can easily assess all my files, photos, etc. from my laptop and download them as needed. Or just keep them stored at Carbonite. No fear of loss of data.

In fact, I can go to anybody's computer, log into the virtual hard-drive at Carbonite, and download files onto somebody else's computer as well. So it's also an easy way to share files.

I especially like the fact that I don't have to do anything after initial set-up. You just set it up upon install and then your files are continuously backed-up in the background, automatically. Never have to do a thing, remember to back-up, or anything. Easy-peasy.

If a local service offered the same ease and features, I'd jump-ship in a heartbeat just because I'd rather support local business. But not if I have to do much work to ensure my back-up is current.

You can save your bookmark file, Stash.

Or move over to Chrome, set up a gmail account even if you don't use it for email, synch your Chrome with your gmail account. And your bookmarks are continuously saved.

Now your bookmarks are available no matter what computer you're using as long as you can use Chrome as your browser. Just open Chrome, log into your gmail account, and all your bookmarks, extensions, etc. are there. Simple.
