Quote:
He told religious leaders in Bahrain that the most important conflicts in the world were between the children of Abraham, whether the Israeli/Palestinian conflict or the US/Iran conflict and the challenge for them was how they could play a role in bringing peace.

"We are Christians, Jews and Muslims, but one of our faults is instead of worshipping God, we worship our religion and use that to cause division between us,"

He further went on to say

"The sense of brotherhood and unity that the prophets had for each other as servants of the true God is the primary lesson we should all learn.

"The demand is on us (Muslims) to feel a special brotherhood with the Christian and Jewish faiths and certainly our own.

"We shouldn't see differences, but see the differences that unite us and are part of one theme.

And he concluded with

"It's time we also saw that if we followed the laws of Moses, Jesus and Mohammed they were not opposed to each other."

As a strong advocate for Islamic law to be practiced the United States, Rauf represents a creeping religious, social, and political cancer determined to undermine and then destroy our Constitution and way of life as we know it.

I can see how that kind of coexistence would be a threat to the status quo.

Loc: Heaven. Yeah, cool.
Not to mention this:
Fox News has gone to such an absurd extreme to stir up controversy that they're deliberately ignoring a glaring hypocrisy. That is, that the potential Park51 funder that they accuse of having dangerous Middle East ties is also the second largest shareholder in Fox's parent company, News Corp. Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal owns about $2.3 billion in stock with News Corp. and is an ally of Rupert Murdoch's. But Fox commentators would have you believe that you should be worried about him funding Park51 because he is dangerous, and "funds radical madrassas all over the world."

William Randolph Hearst only started one war. I get the feeling Rupert Murdoch won't be happy until he's started several.

He's either ignorant or a liar.
Jesus abrogated the Law of Moses by fulfilling it long before little Muhammad was on this earth.

You neglected to post the money quote:

"We need to find a way to infuse our religious practices in politics without politicising our religion," he (Rauf) said.

Wakey-wakey, people.

Yeah, usually they say "values" or "faith-based initiatives".

Give him a few years, he'll learn the theocracy code words.

He's also written in a number of different places that the harsh treatment of women and the criminal and social penalties that seem so harsh in the West are actually cultural artifacts of the societies in which they occur rather than expressions of Sharia law, and that (as he wrote on Huffington Post) "one of the remaining tasks for Islamic societies is to bring those sanctions in line with modern circumstances and expectations."

Which is a hell of a lot more reasonable than anything I've heard coming out of fundamentalist Christians.

To supplant the United States Constitution and legal system?

1.Canon Law is designed for church government, not societal.

2.Beth Din (which is a process of binding arbitration) holds that "dina d’malchusa dina” (the law of the government is the law).

3.Buddhist law? Everyone wins and gets a ribbon for participation!

And yet the only American fundamentalist with a presidential authorized CIA hit hanging over his head is a Muslim.
