I remember back in 2004 when Republicans raised hell over a few filibusters by Democratic Senators on Dubya's court nominees. "Give them an up or down vote!" they'd yell. The Republicans would suggest the filibusters were unamerican and Democrats were not using the rule as intended. They threatened "the nuclear option.

With the help of the Gang of 14 the Democrats caved and Dubya got his nominees. Since 2009 when this President took office, the Republicans have filibustered almost everything. Much has been watered down by compromie or capitulation. Where are the pundants calling out the unamerican Republicans? Only now, after almost 3 years are we seeing a slight rise in the level of discourse regarding this issue. It is long overdue and needs to amp up on all fronts. The President can't do it alone (and he should have started a long time ago!). Harry Reid needs to start kicking some BlueDog ass. rip out the Committee Chairmanships that give them so much in campaign donations. If they switch parties then fine. At least they'll be truthful. The base will defend Democrats who act like Democrats.

While the GOP is continuing it's "Party of No!" strategy, it seems the President is finding ways to work around them. Today he announced some assistance on Student Loans.
