Newt is surging and why not? The rest of the pack is a disgrace. I am thinking that if we have to have a Republican president it would be nice to have someone who is politically astute instead of a president that is learning as he goes or a president that thinks he can be a dictator to get things done. We are in a mess. Our congress cannot pull together. If we have to have a Republican, lets pick Newt. Newt surges!

The last time Newt rose this high in the polls, he asked Abe if he wanted to go to the theater.
FWIW, if I had to hold my nose and pick a Republican, I'd give Huntsman a look first and if he didn't cut the mustard, I'd have to look at Newt next. Those are the only two who look somewhat competent.

Quite a remake it was. We'll never see the likes of Everett Dirksen, Tom Dewey, or Margaret Chase Smith with an (R) after their names. True that. I said, "If I had to hold my nose...." But, that wouldn't even be enough to vote for either Gingrich, Huntsman, or any other Republican. But, of all the GOP/Teabagger candidates, Newt and Jon are the only ones coherent. I don't like Newt's policies a bit, but you have to admit he's a sharp cookie. But, Santorum? Bachmann? Cain? Oops Perry? I think it's lights out for the GOP. But, then again I didn't think the electorate would elect Bush in 2004 or re-elect Simpson in 2011. So, what the heck do I know.

"I've gone from being dead in June to being asked who will be in my cabinet. I think that's real progress." NEWT GINGRICH, the former House speaker.
Somebody is going to beat Obama. It might as well be a skilled legislator who can get things done. Bachman, Cain, Perry don't have the tools and this is the wrong time to bring on a new president that cannot deal with a congress full of idealists. We need someone who is skilled.
Newt fits the bill.

Somebody is going to beat Obama. http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x1295.xml?ReleaseID=1669Obama also is looking better in matchups against potential Republican nominees: 47 - 42 percent over Romney, compared to a 46 - 42 percent Romney lead October 5; 52 - 36 percent over Perry, up from a 45 - 44 percent tie last month; 50 - 40 percent over Cain, who was not included in a matchup last month; 52 - 37 percent over Gingrich, who was not matched last month. He's the flavor of the week. Next week, they'll air an interview of the wife he served divorce papers while she was lying in a hospital bed.

Next week, they'll air an interview of the wife he served divorce papers while she was lying in a hospital bed. Because he wanted to marry the staffer with whom he'd been cheating... and if I have them all in the right order... whom he did marry and then divorce because he'd been cheating with his current wife. Yeah, I don't think he's electable. But, he's one shrewd dude.

I think he is so surprised to be up in the poles he hasn't made a list. Seems only yesterday his people were deserting him. I am not campaigning for the guy but with all the lunkheads in congress unable to get anything done, Newt is probably the most capable of the Republican lot to break the deadlock. He'd be my choice of the bad bunch of Republicans running just on that strength.

Yeah, I don't think he's electable. Just because he cheated on his wife? With a woman? Who was of legal age? Who wasn't a hooker? Who wasn't a lobbyist or a Russian spy? You really are old school.

You really are old school. A serial cheater who had already been caught once when serving his cancer riddled wife with divorce papers and now married to the lady he cheated with on the second wife with whom he cheated on the first.... Yeah, you're right. He could get elected. But, I wouldn't bet on it. And, I wouldn't give a dime for the chances of those two second women who married him ever getting elected to anything.

No diapers? No "wide stances"? The guy's not trying very hard. He loses points for being unimaginative.

One of our locals, a former newspaperman who lives 50 miles from here, writes: One clear trait that does not matter to me, but it does to others, is that he’s a horn dog. At 68, I doubt he remains one, but he was a horn dog most of his life. At age 19, right out of high school, he married his geometry teacher, age 26.
That marriage lasted 18 years, and there is a myth connected to it. It is widely believed that Newt visited that wife while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery, and he dropped the divorce bomb on her.
Newt has long denied the story, and their daughter Jackie revealed this year that it was her mother who sought the divorce, that the issue came up before her hospitalization, and her surgery was not for cancer, but a benign tumor.
Gingrich had had an affair and married the new object of his affection in 1981. But you can’t restrain a horn dog for long, and in the mid-1990s he had an affair with a flashy blonde named Callista, a congressional staffer 23 years his junior.
They wed in 2000, and I imagine he’ll stick with her. She’s quite an eyeful, if you like that sort of thing.
Newt is a walking encyclopedia, clearly the brightest on the political stage on both sides of the aisle. He has a Ph.D. in modern European history from Tulane. Yes, he is Dr. Gingrich. Interestingly, he’s a top book reviewer on Amazon.
And he is very effective in setting and meeting conservative goals. Plus, he is learning to smile. I saw him on the telly a few days ago, and clearly his handlers had stressed the value of happy faces. Newt's past is his past. Would he stray from his present wife? I wouldn't think so. What a great looking first lady she would make.

Trade up enough times, and you eventually get what you deserve. A half-million dollar Tiffany's bill. But it's a little ironic and reflective of the appalling quality of the other candidates that Newt's book promotion tour has become a credible campaign. ABC News has learned that one of the major issues between former Speaker Newt Gingrich and his (now former) senior campaign staff revolves around the myriad projects he and his wife Callista work on, which staffers describe as a constant distraction from the campaign. Senior staffers demanded that Gingrich focus on pressing the flesh and fundraising and stop touring the country promoting film projects with his wife. At one point Gingrich was so focused on film premiers and book signings, one senior staffer emailed the team: "We didn’t sign up to be hucksters for products for sale" But sources say Callista controls the schedule. They say she refused to allow the candidate to attend a Memorial Day Weekend parade in key early primary state South Carolina unless a film screening was set up in the state. South Carolina consultant Katon Dawson was pushing hard for the candidate to attend the parade, but the film screening couldn’t be set up. So the couple stayed in Washington DC and attended the opera at the Kennedy Center on May 27. Some senior staffers laughed: the opera was Don Pasquale — a comedy about an old wealthy man’s romantic life. The senior staffers didn’t understand the need for the two to spend the time together that night, instead of having him campaign, given that the couple was about to go on an extended luxury cruise. "His spouse has demands on his time that are not practical for a candidate running for president," said one former senior staffer.http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/201...up-to-be-hucks/

I couldn't find the date on the article you linked but the previous article was about Qaddafi talking to senior members of congress. Libya dictator Muammar Gaddafi has apparently written a letter addressed to Congressional leadership and the White House, a week after the House of Representatives passed a resolution demanding the Obama administration explain the legal justifications for committing U.S. armed forces to enforce a no-fly zone there. Tapper must not write articles very often. The other article linked was 4 months old. Gingrich can run on being a devoted spouse in the current event category.

It's from May of this year. Gingrich can run on being a devoted spouse in the current event category.
A devoted spouse with a good credit limit. a) being something other than a devoted spouse doesn't disqualify. b) he must sell enough books to keep Calista happy for another 9 months.

It is almost a guarantee that this years election will be about jobs and economy. The candidate with the better plan wins. All the other chatter really won't mean anything.
Gingrich would be formidable on that front.

Here's something you can pass along to your friend--it ain't a myth at all. Newt's first wife was quoted in the Washington Post in 1984: “He can say that we had been talking about [a divorce] for 10 years, but the truth is that it came as a complete surprise,” says Jackie Gingrich, in a telephone interview from Carrollton. “He’s a great wordsmith … He walked out in the spring of 1980 and I returned to Georgia. By September, I went into the hospital for my third surgery. The two girls came to see me, and said Daddy is downstairs and could he come up? When he got there, he wanted to discuss the terms of the divorce while I was recovering from the surgery … To say I gave up a lot for the marriage is the understatement of the year.”

A devoted spouse with a good credit limit. He earned 6.7 million last year. He can afford a shopping spree or two. Interesting that while his party was in power and were encouraging worthless loans: In last Wednesday's Republican presidential debate, Gingrich sought to explain his role at Freddie Mac as that of a "historian" sounding dire warnings about the company's future. He said company officials told him "we are now making loans to people that have no credit history and have no record of paying back anything, but that's what the government wants us to do." He said his advice was to tell them, "this is insane."

And the same company officials say that conversation never happened, and we know how to tell when Newt Gingrich is lying, because his lips move.
