Events like the one in the above video have been far too common in the police response to Occupy protests across the country. I do believe that Occupy Wall Street is at a tipping point, and that it must grow beyond and evolve away from the tent city occupations, but this police response is absurd and excessive.
Arrests exceeding 250 people followed protests in New York City yesterday. All across the country, cops are cracking down on protesters with force. I may be a critic of Occupy Wall Street, but the police are public servants, and public servants have no business treating the public this way.
By and large, Occupy has been a peaceful affair. Certainly pepper-spraying protesters while they sit calmly in a row like this is a gross abuse of power. It should have our collective blood boiling, whether or not we even agree with the protesters themselves. What was meant to be a protest against economic equality quickly morphs into a protest against the police state.
And make no mistake, the powers of the police in this country have grown out of hand. I’ve written at length on the militarization of the police, of SWAT team abuses, and the way that the war on terror and the war on drugs have both contributed to what is really just a war on individual liberty. Occupy Wall Street may need to grow up and evolve, but a far greater and more pressing issue facing this country is what to do about the security state we’ve erected about us at the local, state, and federal level.

I am almost convinced that if a protest doesn't cause some blood to be drawn by the police it will go nowhere. Can you think of any meaningful protest that brought about changes that blood didn't flow? Think union organization or the war protests during the Vietnam war.
It is wrong but I am not surprised.

I've come to think of "peaceful protest", "non violent demonstration" and "civil disobedience" in the same way that I think of the stuff at the theater which occurs before "and now, our feature presentation".

The whole line was full of Unique and Special Snowflakes, or spoiled brats as is a better description. Point in case the ones in the Forbes video recording the "atrocity" with an iPad and the dozen or so smart phones. All those devices made by eeeevil corporations.
Note to occumorons: Don't piss off people with the authority to cavity search you. And when a guy points a high density pepper spray canister at you and advises you to go home, Mommy & Daddy will be there with mac&cheese and a hanky, Go Home.

This bit of propaganda would seem to suggest that the ONLY thing that is being protested are corporations that produce things like chickens, power, etc. It was the banking industry and their crooked shenanigans that got us into this mess and, it appears, the next mess to come.
What did these drones produce except ways to bankrupt the whole nation and perhaps the world. Their cozy connections to our congressmen is just one of the things being protested. This is really more than just us against corporations. To try to simplify it as such is not going to work.
It is just propaganda.

Didn't care for your guy. He gave the standard trickle down "Thank them for making money and if you're really good, you can mow their lawn" BS.
Look at the police in this video. People sitting down, posing no threat to anyone get pepper sprayed by our law enforcement officers. Abominable. But, be sure to watch starting at 6:13 when the still peaceful protesters shame the officers into leaving. They were chanting, "You can go!" but, they could have just as easily been chanting, "If you're nice, we'll let you leave." Remember, we left Viet Nam and Korea because "they" didn't quit. I think this group isn't going to quit either. And, your side isn't willing to spend enough tax dollars to buy enough cops to wear them out.

Heads could roll. We have the potential of having our own Arab spring with armed mobs if things get worse and congress tries to deny that there is a problem because their masters tell them to. Interesting times.

Most of these cops have consciences and clubbing and macing innocent protesters will eventually cause some of them to side with the protesters. I have always wondered about the national guard members that fired on students at Kent State. How many times could they be told to do that before they simply quit obeying orders. Right now in Syria some troops are joining the people they were shooting last week.
At the very least this kind of publicity is going to cost some people elections.

I find your attitude quite interesting since you participated in local Tea Party events. Why is one OK but not the other?
I support the Tea Partier's rights to protest even though I disagree with their POV. I would appreciate you doing the same for those you disagree with. Everybody deserves to have a voice in a Democratic Republic.
