I agree that Carlin is right on the money with this one. There is certainly plenty of blame to go around, but we're all guilty to some degree. Sure we can point at those wealthy businesses with all their money and clout, but we don't vote for corporations in this country except with our dollars. We do, however, have a right to vote for those politicians we choose to elect. However, those politicians, as Carlin pointedly identifies, have been bought and paid for. They are owned by them and not by the people.
We don't have much control over wealthy businesses, but we certainly have control over whom we elect to positions of political power in this country. Somehow we need to find and identify those people willing to serve who cannot be bought and paid for. We need to find and elect those people who have the courage and conviction to represent the people who have elected them, and who will not succumb to the temptations of those who want to own them.
Is that possible? I want to believe it is, for if it isn't, we are doomed. We, the people, are in a much bigger club than they are, so we need to unite and sort through our members to find those we can trust to represent us. We need to find those who will not be owned, and elect them. I've said it before...if we want better politicians we need to become better people...for they are us.
