Here are the details: The payroll tax will increase 2 percent starting January 1 – costing most working Americans about $1,000 next year – unless the employee part of the tax cut is extended for another year.

Democrats want to pay for this with a temporary – not permanent – surtax on any earnings over $1 million, according to their most recent proposal. The surtax would be 1.9 percent, for ten years. (Democrats would also increase the fees Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac charge lenders.)

This means someone who earns $1,000,001 would pay just under two cents extra next year, and 19 cents over ten years.

Setting aside the issue of whether extending the payroll tax holiday is prudent in light of a medicare shortfalls, this is unacceptable to rank and file republicans. They'd rather increase taxes on the average worker than the average wall street financier.

As George Carlin pointed out in one of your recent postings, our politicians are all bought and paid for. They will do whatever their owners tell them to do, and the rest of us have nothing to say about it that really matters because we don't belong to the club.

Perhaps. But it is apparent that either the owners of the Democrats are purchasing something other than what the owners of the Republicans are, or Democrats and Republicans disagree over what they're being paid to do by the same ownership group.

Not necessarily. They're all getting paid by the same owners. Appearing to disagree seems an attempt to provide the illusion they think the rest of us need before they finally do as they are told...then each blames the other party for whatever shortcomings result.

They do work so hard at creating the illusion of choice. Hopefully the rest of the voting populous catches on to this little revelation.

On a side note, I dont know about you guy's but I cant wait to see our worthless commissioners start to squirm as election year approaches. They will be oh so busy trying to keep their job, instead of doing their job. I like the idea of eliminating the positions all together and hiring a qualified individual to manage our counties affairs under advisement from a board that is elected but not paid. Perhaps having someone other than a clown or a two faced snake at the helm might be a good thing for our community. After all, the only qualification is winning local popularity contest, and look what that has gotten us.

Michael Moore now thinks that the owners (at least those on Wall Street) have chosen their man to be our President for the next four years.

MICHAEL MOORE, ON CNN: Well, "The Washington post" three weeks ago had this investigation and they said that President Obama has now raised more money from Wall Street and the banks for this election cycle than all -- than all eight Republicans combined. I don't want to say that, because if that's the truth, that Wall Street already has their man and his name is Barack Obama, then we've got a much bigger problem."
