Why the habit of entering posts/cartoons making fun of God believing people?

Very odd you'd spend your time campaigning against a Deity, especially the Judeo-Christian God you believe (have faith) does not exist.

I don't see God believing people making fun of atheists on this board.
Personally, I don't give your atheism a thought unless something in your posts reminds me, this thread an example.

Interesting how much time you spend thinking about God...and how apparently it drives you to make disparaging posts. So much for "progressive tolerance".

You'd be thinking wrong...again.

I posted an observation...
and a question, which you avoided and didn't answer with a lame attempt at deflection.

You can belittle God believing people to your heart's content.
It only reflects poorly upon you and reveals "progressive tolerance" for what it is: bull dung.

This AM local chat radio had a segment promoting the new film “Metamorphosis: The Beauty and Design of Butterflies.”

The film apparently attempts to bolster support for the Intelligent Design myth by empirically examining the metamorphosis of the caterpillar. The cartoon captures what I presume is the gist of the argument.

Should ID be given equal weight to evolution? Not in my book.

You posted a silly straw man: Why the habit of entering posts/cartoons making fun of God believing people?

There is no "habit". I had a smoking habit, but kicked it 11 years ago.

If straw men are the soup de jour, then Why the habit of just coming into the forum and sniping at other member's threads? Not that there is anything wrong with that, but why not start some of your own? Most of the very few threads you've started have been bringing Beavis' threads over this board rather than posting an original thread of your own. It's ok that you do what you do, but I was just curious about your "habit".

Oh, and less of a straw man, Why didn't you simply post, "No god created that 'chair'. It was simply a rock that someone sat on." rather than proclaiming my habit because I found what I thought was a cute joke illustrating one consistant religious argument. The "habit" of course is non-denominational and cross cult. Christian, Judism, Wiccan, Buddist, Hindu. It's all the same. There are just more Christians posting here than any of the others.

That's no straw man, it was directly related to you and your post.

A habit is a recurring tendency, a usual manner of behavior, a prevailing disposition of one's thoughts, all which apply to your posts, numerous in number, disparaging God believing people...the term you borrowed and enjoy using to identify them: skygodders.

Concerning your former tobacco use, what you had went beyond habit into addiction with nicotine cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

Congratulations on quitting, btw.

I think the mythical god Hades was not in the sky, so I have equal disregard for the supernatural creations of man, sky or not. And, maybe I misunderstand Christian mythology, but don't the football players point up to heaven when they make the touchdown? I figured ya'll thought is was up there somewhere.

Except, of course for Jehovah's Witnesses who believe it will be here on earth sometime later. Hmmmm. Does a JW wide-receiver point to the ground when he catches a touch down? wink

So, in Christian mythology, where is heaven/god/the football player's blind grandfather? And, why are they always pointing up there?

Yahweh is omnipresent.

It's difficult to point everywhere, and Judeo-Christians generally picture God sitting on His throne in Heaven above.

Some athletes "point" to themselves after making an exceptional play or score, such as banging their fists against their own chest, perhaps indicating self-glorification of their talent and ability.

Other athletes point to Heaven to give God the glory for blessing them with the talent, ability, and opportunity to make the play. At least that is what they say during interviews. I don't have any reason to doubt them, nor to criticize them for their focus of celebratory acknowledgement.

Does it irk you? Why would you even give it a second thought? As long as athletes aren't engaging in unsportsmanlike celebratory conduct such as taunting, lewd, or excessive displays of celebration, what difference does their choice of celebratory gesture make to you?

It makes absolutely no difference to me. You take umbridge at the term "skygodder". I offer examples of the mytholgy showing that's where she is... in the sky.

@ikayak, why is it that religious people often take offense to something like a simple cartoon and their first response is to go all jehad and assassinate the character of the original poster if not assassinate them by cutting their head off or fly an airplane into some building?

Can't you appreciate the humor?

Umbridge? Not me personally. I don't take anything posted on this board personally. However, I don't think for one second that you're being respectful of Judeo-Christians labeling them as "skygodders". Just as you're not being respectful of the Judeo-Christian faith with your "she" comment. I'm sure even you are aware that the first person of the Trinity is God, the Father. "Father" rules out "she".

But again, all this is just a reflection of your own heart, mind, and intolerance, and your apparent enjoyment of poking fun at people of faith...not to mention, your avoidance of or inability to answer, my question.

What a crock. It's a funny joke. Humor often has an element of truth. How many times have "religious people" used the old saw about the watch? Well, this joke plays on that.

Thanks for the welcome Stash, this is my first time here, my regular forum seems to be offline today. As for ikayak I learned all I needed to know when he / she used the phrase "You liberals" in another thread, as opposed to you blacks, you gays, you 'not people'.

Maybe you could learn to connect the thread dots. "You liberals (have such an obsession to rewrite history to fit into your own worldview)" as in both Funky and Beavis were attempting to rewrite history in the thread. And as an identifier, there is nothing pejorative about the use of the two words "you liberals" any more than "you Democrats", "you conservatives", "you Republicans", or "you kids".

Unless, of course, you're a whiny, thin-skinned, wuss.

You made a fuss concerning the word "habit", remember?...which merely means recurring tendency. A check of your posting history will confirm you have a tendency, mind-set, habit of entering posts which in some way make fun of God and/or God-believing people.

So...the question...again...

Why the habit of entering posts/cartoons making fun of God believing people?

Quote:
Again, I think the lady doth protest too much.

And again, you think wrong.
No protest, just calling the situation for what it is: not respectful.

That's just nonsense.
And my feelings, or lack thereof in this case, have no bearing on the discussion.

Bingo. And I'm convinced, a bit more than "a bit".
So perhaps that is my answer, eh?...that it amuses you to make fun of God and God-believing people?

As for authoritarian ideologies they tend to promote enlargement of the right amygdala, part of the lower (reptilian) brain, the emotional, fight or flight part of the brain leading to binary thinking, threat-non threat, good-evil, black-white thinking.

Anything questioning their beliefs, confirmation bias is seen as a personal attack inhibiting the use of the anterior cingulate and critical thinking.

Ya, sure. Whatever helps get you through the night.

"They are all the same person."

That's funny ikayak, I was thinking I had seen you on several other forums, last time you were a Mormon. Or at least you present the same old arguments (rhetoric) and style. Its a wallpaper world.

Who did design the chairs?[/quote]

In this case it would be the two gentlemen who figured out those rocks would be a nice place to sit down.

Wowee! That's some serious insight! Makes a person go "Hmmm?", in pondering your brilliance. However, I think I'll let iKayak, Thumper and the Caveman in the comic debate you. It would definitely provide this guest entertainment.

Welcome to the board.

Note: Fixed errant code. You're Welcome.

Just to make 5 happy, the cavemen did not design the "chairs", unless they actually move a rock or two.

If the cavemen just sat on the rocks and called them chairs, the question would be, who or what put the rocks where they were?

Its as profound as picking up a rock and calling it a 'hammer'.

The problem is misuse of the word "created" in the original cartoon.

Funny no one asked the rocks what they think they are. Of course they'd change the topic and wonder how their new asshats evolved.
