Dear Fox News: The numbers on a graph are supposed to have a relationship to the left axis.

Not if you are FAUX News. A relationship may give their dumbed-down audience the impression the unemployment rate has dropped. That doesn't fit the corporate message.

No. They are not trying to look bad. They only look bad to discriminating audiences. My dear mother thinks FAUX News is close to gospel. Facts don't matter. The only thing that matters is what Bill the serial harrasser O'Reilly says.

Roger Ailes knows his base won't check and they won't believe the "no-good, lefty, lying-scum, Media Matters", et. al.

I wonder is fox is still using the charts?

I sure hope the other guys never do anything like this!

I have no doubt "the other guys" have made mistakes. It would even surprise me if "the other guys" deliberately inserted some mischeivious items a time or two. But, FAUX News does it all the time. If a Republican is caught in a scandal, they invariably "make the mistake" of putting a "D" after their name. My mother and her friends would never check and it would only reinforce the problems with Democrats.

In any relationship, terms must be developed. There are subjects not discussed in order to avoid unnecessary discomfort.

Really bad. And so are MSNBC and CNN.

The real unemployment rate is not 8.4%. It's closer to 11%. More than 300k dropped out of the "workforce", discouraged, and no longer looking for a job, at least temporarily. They are not counted as "unemployed" even though they clearly are unemployed. So even at 9%, FOX is falling woefully short of the true unemployment rate.

You are correct regarding the formula. Bad package. But, FAUX News was not attempting to get closer to the real number. They were intending to mislead.

Neither were the other cable news outlets.
They are all misleading the non-discriminating, non-intellectual viewer.

Acknowledge the difference:

FAUX News gets the number from the government agency, that is 8.6%. They put the number on a graph with the representative designator much higher than the graph would have accurately allowed. Or, on another graphic, simply report >9%.

The others get the number from the agency and report the nuumber, 8.6%.

Neither get the true unemployment number, but one had a negative agenda, the other(s) simply reported the number.

FAUX News is like the Soviet press in an old joke: In a race between USSR and USA atheletes, the USA prevailed. The Soviet Press reported, "Soviet prowess places second in great race. Americans - next to last!"

It doesn't really matter if FOX mistakenly upticked their labeled 8.6% on the graph...it was numbered as 8.6% and still not accurate...or if they mistakenly showed it at 9%...still not accurate. Unless you watch (and read) their business reporting outlets, they are all doing a woefully inadequate job of accurately informing the public.

Fox news doesn't make mistakes. They lie.

But yeah, there are better indicators of workforce wellbeing than unemployment rate.

If I watch cable "news", it's usually MSNBC. You don't think the talking heads there lie and mislead, too? Please. I used to like Ed Schultz. Got tired of wading through the lies. Tedious.

Please give one example of an Ed Schulz "lie." Or more, if you'd like.
