Ah, yes. The Caipirinha. The national drink of Brazil. Made with cachaça, distilled from sugar cane. There are other drinks and many are good. The Real for example has serano pepper syrup in it. But, the caipirinha is, by far, the best.
No matter what the web says:
Slice and muddle 1/2 lime with 1 1/2 tbs sugar. I use Baker's Sugar.
Fill a decent size glass with ice cubes. I've used crushed, but cubes are better. Add 4 oz. of cachaça. Shake the beejeezus out of it. Drink.
On the next one, alter to suit taste: smaller glass, less booze, less ice, more/less lime. It's all good.
And, then go buy more cachaça. Through December at least, the liquor store has Pirassanungua Cachaça on sale for $20.95 a 5th.
