I really can't listen to it as I can't stand the guy. I couldn't get past about the 45-second mark. And it's not the language as that doesn't bother me. I'm a Carlin fan. I've just always found him to be so inarticulate that I question his intelligence and his voice grates on my nerves. If anyone wants to give me a synopsis, great. If not, I doubt I'm missing much.

Mrs. 5th agree's with you regarding the messenger. I don't iKayak and I agree with the message: You won't Synopsis: Fuck you, you fat, envious, lazy 99%ers and get some fucking ambition, integrity, pride. And then he calls 'em AssDouches.

I agree with Mrs. 5th and Funky regarding the messenger. Carolla has been a no-talent, ass clown for a long time. Wasn't he a complete nobody before Dr. Drew introduced us to him? The world was a better place before that happened. But, because the messenger is such a dick wad, his message regarding the 99% is pretty tainted. Yours is only tainted because your side lost. Iky's opinion has to be considered, of course, because after all she has god on her side.

It's not a breaking story. I've been reading news outlets and speaking with missionaries about it for over a decade. I am no fan of the Catholic Church. After harboring all those pedophile priests, a downfall because of illegal drug activity would be welcome. However, after Googling a bit on the subject I could not find anything except possible donations by drug lords going to the church. That I figure is the lying murderers trying to buy their way into heaven. Whether priests are peddling drugs to their flock is not mentioned. What kind of things are you hearing? I have some good rumors to trade. I'll start: The head priest in LA Paraoquia has a wife in Mexico City. But drugs....no. Not a word.

I'm not saying the churches are involved in drug trafficking, but some are benefitting from drug money. As you said/implied, the Catholic churches were stripped of their wealth and power creating a vacuum for the cartels to fill through the churches...either by bribery or extortion. Just as the mafia garnered more power through the churches in Italy and the US, so too the cartels in Mexico. MEXICO CITY — President Felipe Calderon said Wednesday that Mexico's cartels in many cases have moved beyond drugs as their main money-earner and are even trying to supplant the government in parts of the country.
Speaking at an anti-crime conference, Calderon said gangs are imposing fees like taxes in towns they dominate, extorting money from both legitimate and unauthorized businesses. "This has become an activity that defies the government, and even seeks to replace the government," he said. "They are trying to impose a monopoly by force of arms, and are even trying to impose their own laws." Calderon said cartels may even be taking money from churches. "I do not doubt that they are also extorting money from priests and pastors in this country," he said. Drugs are becoming less of a focus for the gangs, he said. "Their main business is not anymore even drug trafficking, sometimes," Calderon said. "Their business is dominating other people." link to msnbc article kvue link

the Catholic churches were stripped of their wealth and power creating a vacuum for the cartels to fill through the churches...either by bribery or extortion. This stripping was accomplished by the Mexican constitution of 1917, long before the emergence of the drug cartels. I doubt any power vacuum existed unfilled until the cartels came along. Just as the mafia garnered more power through the churches in Italy and the US, so too the cartels in Mexico. How does one garner more power through an institution that has been stripped of power, and wealth?

Just as Calderon said, the cartels want to take the place of government, which as you know in Mexican history, was the hallmark of corruption. Also as Calderon said, the cartels are in the business of dominating people. History testifies that it's often accomplished either by buying loyalty or by intimidating others into being loyal. Poverty usually equals powerlessness.
