So, I got my notice of Jury Duty. Naturally, I would be happy to serve on a jury. Really. However, I have a couple of out of state obligations.
So, I fill out the form asking for a deferral. I tell them that I will be gone the entire first week of August, to a wedding, out of state.
Yesterday, I get my card telling me that I have jury duty on August 5th.

So... guess I'll be making some phone calls... but, geeez, what is up with this???

Funny. Hope you get it worked out.

So, I called, got voicemail. Called back, got someone who assured me that, if I leave voicemail, it will be duly noted.

I really want to talk to a real person. I want some sort of official thing that says that I won't be arrested for failing to report for jury duty.

I think they have better things to do than arrest people for ditching on jury duty. But it is Grays Harbor i could be wrong. grin

You should be OK if you left the message - however I would confirm with the court to make sure........

I just called... well, she claims she never got my deferral request... which I mailed the day after I got my initial notification. But, she said she'd make a note of it, and it's fine

Everyone in my family has gotten a jury duty notice this year except for me *knock on wood* The last time I received a jury duty notice was when I lived in Colorado back in 2002, and it was set to be septmber 11, 2002. Court was cancelled that day, so I lucked out!

Loc: Heaven. Yeah, cool.
Last time I got a jury duty notice I found myself sitting in the jury pool right next to Sheriff Mike Whelan.

The questionnaire section of the afternoon was comical. Every question the defense asked -- "do you have friends in local law enforcement? Are you familiar with court procedures?" -- Whelan raised his hand for.

In the end, I didn't get picked. Needless to say, neither did the Sheriff.

Too funny.

I've been called 4-6 times (I lose track) over the years. Only made it on one jury. I've never been disqualified because of my answers. I always seem to be a high enough number that they fill the 12 before they even get to me. Oh well, at least I get my big $10 (or is it $20 now?). My memory, oh so bad these days.

They need to up that pay. Its almost not worth the gas to drive up there now.

I had JD a few months ago and the first twelve they picked are the people they went with. I was a little upset as were the rest of the people that we had to be there at 8 but they didnt show us that lame video till 9.

Yeah, same here. The jury selection was done until close to Noon so it took all morning. Glad I brought a book!

The last jury summons I received came a few days before Christmas, and I was getting ready for company, and it got lost in the shuffle and didn't get returned in time.

I didn't get arrested, so I think you are safe.

grin

Perhaps it is not a very civic minded tactic but if you don't want to serve on jury duty, don't acknowledge you ever received the notice. It has never been known to get anyone in trouble.
