Hi all, Those of you who've been with us for a while know we had posted rules here before the Great Server Meltdown of 2008 Alas, those well-written and concise guidelines were lost, apparently forever, in said crash. So we're reconstructing them from memory. In the meantime, here are a few things to bear in mind during your time here at GH Talk: 1. We're champions of free speech and we enjoy a good debate as much as anyone. However, free speech has consequences here just as in real life. You wouldn't try and get into a synagogue wearing a Nazi uniform, or stand in front of an elementary school screaming profanity. There's a time and place for everything. We've created a special forum, "The Flame Pit," where pretty much anything goes. In other forums and especially the Shout Box, please be aware that profanity and personal attacks may be deleted. We are aware that not everyone agrees on what constitutes offensive speech, but someone's got to be the referee, so we as moderators reserve the right to make the call on what belongs in the Flame Pit and what does not. 2. No pornography. We're not prudes, but there are plenty of other places to go on the Internet if you're looking for porn. Again, we as mods reserve final judgement on what qualifies. 3. Any activity that involves "taking it to real life," i.e. stalking, will result in the poster being banned and GH Talk cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities. Also, this is an Internet message board and as such--while you're never really anonymous on the Internet--we don't want you wasting your time or ours on lengthy threads theorizing about or demanding someone's "real identity." Other than that, have fun. Anything to add, subtract, divide or multiply? Let us know. The Moderators

Nobama08 is not on the user's list, so he is gone?
Too bad.
Life isn't always pretty,
maybe he should have been confined to The Flame Pit instead of being banned if his language annoys some people, he does seem to be "R" rated.

"Nobama08 is not on the user's list, so he is gone?" Until he is resurrected under another alias.

Actually I would love to see him become part of this group. He is interesting. If he kept that persona and posted in the flame section he would be great fun.
I don't think that Nobama8 was his first nic on here. Too much familiarity.

R rated??? Try XXX. R rated movies are way tamer than he is. I can't recall an R rated movie that talks about doing things to someone's mama!!

Right. It was tanngnjostr. I'm kind of disappointed my 'ignore user' has no use (well, until this evening when someone 'new' pops up, I'm sure). How do you know that? From the posts I've read the "Tann-Man" has WAY more typos and Mr. Nobama seems to laugh a lot more.

it does seem that there is a very small group of people here that all seem to know who each other are in rw...strange for anyone wanting to join
new ideas don't really seem to be wanted, just sayin' I'd say, "I disagree", but that would feed your "don't want new ideas" thesis. So, I'd like to say, if I've done anything to suggest I don't want to hear new ideas, I'm sorry. I encourage you to share your new ideas. I read your posts and saw only a rebuttle or clarification to your post regarding 4 H. I would hope all feel comfortable posting. But, that none feel uncomfortable if there are questions or disagreements. This is a contact sport and some of us play hard. But, we love to play. Even Flag Football sucks if you only have one team. Stay in the game and let 'er rip. Please.

new ideas don't really seem to be wanted, just sayin' If you want to be agrees with all the time, unless you are a liberal, you won't be. If you have ideas worth discuss, bring them on. This is a discussion board, discuss. I am usually on the outside, but, it is better to be right than popular.

There is a big difference between "new ideas not being wanted" and "nobody challenging or questioning anything I say" which is what most people who complain about "new ideas not being wanted here" really seem to be saying.

Stay in the game and let 'er rip. Please. Just be careful to always let the Democrats always win or you might find yourself having a defamatory article written about you in the newspaper. I see from HoquiamLiving's post that you guys haven't changed your attitudes towards those who don't think just like you.

Geez, wasn't your last post on the old board a whine, too? I guess consistency counts for something. Welcome back. We've missed your little "semantic weasel" self.

Geez, wasn't your last post on the old board a whine, too? LOL. Not a whine; a pure unadulterated troll. To be honest HoquiamLiving I've met most of the people on here in real life and they are for the most part very good people. Even Beavis and I had our thing but unless you get on his bad side (which I somehow did) he's actually a good person. Stick around and you'll become part of the group of people and you'll be better for it. I know I was.

You should make at least a once-a-week Stump Speech. If nothing else it will give us something to laugh at.

He worked for the city of Aberdeen probably 20 years ago? I "work" with him now and it's been fun hearing stories of the area long ago.

Nope. I don't remember him. But, that doesn't mean much. I'm constantly told of stores and buildings around here that I don't remember. I guess the memory is the second thing to go. Take care.

I have noticed this also. I have been reading the comments for a long time before I decided to join. They are just plain mean to some of the new posters and make unfounded accusations. Some of them ( I don't need to mention names it is obvious who they are ) are so full of themselves it is beyond annoying ! I am sure they will now say, I don't have to tune in, or maybe that I am a sock puppet trying to trick someone? Their inside jokes are redundant and pompous. If I had over six hundred posts on a site I would worry about why I have no life instead of brag about it. Just saying ...

I understand what you are trying to say but I have yet to find any place on the Internet that you can state an opinion and someone else will not respond with some kind of attack. It is sad but it is the way people are. Especially when they are anonymous which is like making a crank call from a pay phone.
But anonymous is nice as well. When you are anonymous you can take a stand on unpopular issues that are bound to be flamed but who cares? You are anonymous! There is quite a freedom there. No faces are associated with the comments. Feel free to stake out your online persona (which needn't be your real one).
I started participating in online discussions when all there was was BBS's. We used our own names then and even then flame wars broke out. I am convinced that unless you are in the room or know where the person lives and can punch the person in the nose, people will be rude.
These forums actually were started to be friendly with a Flame section for name calling and rudeness. You have to remember though the two things you cannot discuss in a friendly way: politics and religion. Rudeness spills over into them.
Welcome aboard and don't be timid.

I don't say anything to anyone on here that I wouldn't say to them face to face. That's my rule of thumb. I guess that means I'm sometimes a little caustic in person, too. My friends won't believe it! I, too, try to follow that rule. I know I fail from time to time. But, it's still a good rule. As you know, I can be caustic in person, but try to be civil most of the time. An expectation I have always expected from myself and the Customer Service folk in any entity in which I was involved was: Don't let any individual leave with any less dignity than they brought into the encounter and more whenever possible. Some people are just absolute jerks and bring no dignity or self-respect into an encounter. I was told on the radio the other day that I told someone to shut up during a meeting. I don't think I did, but if true, there is no individual who would deserve it more than that one.
