Great NorthWest has experienced various changes as they continue to grow and expand over the years. Chartered in April 1953 as Shafer Mill Employees Credit Union, it went on to merge with Weyerhaeuser Employees’ Credit Union, and was changed to Twin Harbors Credit Union. In 2000, they adopted their current name. As the credit union has continually grown, the need for a Financial Center was brought to fruition in January of 2019. Now located in the Aberdeen Harbor Place, the Financial Center houses mortgage, business and retirement and investment services. There, Michelle provides services through Great NorthWest’s partnership with CUNA Brokerage Services (CBSI), who provides services to credit union members nationwide.
Growing up in Grays Harbor, Michelle has deep roots in the community. She graduated from Montesano High School, received the Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF) designation from The American College. Michelle has been married for 17 years, and has two children. She enjoys gardening and going on adventures around the Pacific Northwest.
Getting her start with the credit union over 12 years ago, Michelle has thorough knowledge of their many services and offerings. Starting her career with the credit union as a teller, she quickly realized her passion for financial guidance and advanced within the credit union to eventually join CBSI in her current role as a Financial Advisor. “My number one objective is to build relationships and connect with members,” states Michelle. Making financial decisions at any age can be intimidating, which is why seeking the guidance of a Financial Advisor is critical. Michelle prides herself with assisting her clients in making tailored, sound financial decisions at their comfort level.
Although planning your financial future can seem rather daunting, Michelle specializes in multiple financial services. A few of these include: retirement planning, IRAs, life insurance planning, long term care insurance, and wealth management. Michelle also works with clients one-on-one to create specific investment timeline goals and build upon any existing financial plan. The final result will come complete with periodic reviews of a long-term plan designed to build, protect, use, and transfer assets in the most strategic way.
Working with a financial advisor who’s incredibly passionate about their career results in honest advice that can help you make the most of your future. “My favorite part of this job is getting to know people on a personal level and finding out their stories, history, goals and life accomplishments,” says Michelle. “Some members have been with Great NorthWest Retirement & Investment Services for more than 25 years. I really enjoy watching them as they grow in life, enter new stages, and eventually retire.”
When asked what Michelle would say to someone who is considering a consultation, Michelle offered some great advice. “You’re never too young or too old to get started on financial planning,” states Michelle. “We enjoy making our members feel like they’re more than just an account number.” In order to offer a personalized, hands-on experience, Michelle travels to other Great NorthWest branches to visit clients and makes a point to build meaningful relationships. Great NorthWest has a total of five branches that all offer exceptional service through their attentive staff. These locations are located in Aberdeen, Long Beach, Raymond, Ocean Park and Chehalis.
