Neither park is very large, but they have nice grassy areas. Kelsey Park has a dog pick-up station. Fleet Park has a covered area in case you would like to get out of the weather. Lake Sylvia State Park is a bit northeast of downtown Montesano, at 1812 Lake Sylvia Road N. Here, you will find five miles of dog walking trails through the woods, including a .5-mile ADA trail and a trail around the beautiful lake. Dogs must be on leash. The state park has many other amenities to enjoy before or after your walk, including restrooms, picnic areas, fishing, camping and more.
If you want to head southwest, you can find two more places to walk your dog in Montesano. Up first, on the northern side of the Chehalis River, is Friends Landing (300 Katon Road, Montesano). This fun campsite offers tons of amenities – you may decide you want to camp here on your next visit! – and a 1.7-mile trail around Lake Quigg. Enjoy the views of the lake, wetland marsh, forest and grasslands as you stroll with your pup.

Then, across the Chehalis River, on the south side, is the Preachers Sloughs Trail! This fun Trail is easy to access, just take 107 south out of Montesano, turn right onto Preachers Slough Road and then take the first left into the parking lot area. The Preachers Slough Trail is an easy, 7.2-mile trail for those looking for a long dog walk in Montesano. It’s not usually crowded and has beautiful scenery. There are picnic tables for your use before or after your walk. Dogs must be on leash.
