Chehalis River Access Near Montesano
Be sure to get a Discovery Pass for parking at both the Chehalis River Public Access point located at 15 S Road, Montesano, and at Friends Landing located at 300 Katon Road, Montesano.
We started our gorgeous kayak trip down the Chehalis River in Montesano during slack tide. This made it an easy put-in and journey southwest to Friends Landing.
The Montesano boat launch at the Chehalis River Access point is paved and an easy spot to put-in since you can back your vehicle down to the water – no need to pack your ‘yak!
The parking area has pit toilets and portable toilets for your convenience.
Peaceful Kayak Float Near Friends Landing
We love this part of the Chehalis River for kayaking because it’s an easy, peaceful float! Anyone can do this section of the river. And, it’s beautiful any time of the year – with fall bringing gorgeous pops of color to the tree-lined river banks.
While the float is easy, there are some things to be aware of before heading out. The water is cold! If you do get turned over, the riverbanks are hard to access as there are no real shorelines – just grassy banks that drop off into the water.
The calm water requires minimal effort in terms of paddling, so this Chehalis River kayaking spot near Montesano is definitely good for all levels.
Enjoy Friends Landing Kayaking and More
The take-out at Friends Landing is also easy. With a nice sloped area to get out of your kayak and get it to your vehicle, which you can back up to the water.
For shuttling, it’s just a 10-minute drive between the two access points. If you have no one to shuttle, you can pay $25 to have an Uber driver take you back to Chehalis River Public Access to get your vehicle.
Once at Friends Landing, be sure to take advantage of its amenities! Enjoy a picnic lunch at the picnic area, including a cover in case the weather is too hot or a bit wet. Kids can play at the playground. You can fish or take a hike, too. And, if you are looking to prolong the adventure, look into camping at Friends Landing.
