Are you ready to attack the trails? From scenic old-growth forests with rugged terrain and challenging hills, to Seabrook’s scenic beaches, the Washington Coast has some incredible biking trails. Social media influencer Lain Van Ogle recently visited the area and has his picks on where your next trip should take you: mountain biking across Grays Harbor.

Lain has been mountain biking since 2019. “I grew up racing BMX, so I’ve always had a passion for biking,” he shares. “In 2019, a few coworkers invited me to go mountain biking and from then on, I was fully hooked.”

Sharing his experiences on his many social media channels, Lain has covered his mountain biking adventures in 40 states – he knows a good trail when he feels it under his tire! Lain particularly loves exploring trails for the first time. “I also love that Grays Harbor is really not that far from where I live,” he shares. “1–2-hour drive to get to some really fun trails is an easy drive for me!”

So, where does Lain suggest you check out on your next mountain biking adventure in Grays Harbor? Here are his top picks!

The former Grays Harbor ORV park has plenty of parking, camping and forested mountain trails! Lain recommends these trails for intermediate to advanced mountain bikers, though there are a few green trails at Straddline Park.

Lain’s Favorite Straddleline Bike Trails

  • Livin’ The Dream
  • Scoby
  • Stormy
  • Down ‘N Rowdy
  • Octagon

He says these trails are great because they “offer a wide range of types of trails from fast and flowy to steep and technical.”

Electric mountain bikes (EMTB) are allowed on these trails, so you can use pedal assistance when needed.

You can shuttle to these trails by car, so you don’t have to do any uphill riding if you don’t wish to. The driver can drop you off at the top and pick you back up at the bottom! It’s downhill mountain biking at its best!

“Life in the Bike Lain” Tip: “I would highly recommend going with a group and planning to do a shuttle day. This will give you the most opportunity to ride all the trails and have a great time without worrying about having to pedal back up the mountain.”

The lake provides a stunning backdrop to this trail system, which connects to the Montesano City Forest. Lain notes that Lake Sylvia’s trails are really well built and maintained. “You can tell that people have been putting in a lot of work out there for years,” he adds.

He says the Lake Sylvia trails are great for all levels of mountain bikers, from beginner to advanced.

Lain’s Favorite Lake Syliva Bike Trails

  • Middle Earth
  • OD
  • Sylvia Ridge
  • 1600-Connectors

A big draw for Lain was the lake after a day of mountain biking! “I liked the fact that I could camp, hang by the lake, and ride awesome trails all in the same area,” he says. “The trails are a great added experience to the overall vibe of the State Park.”

“Life in the Bike Lain” Tip: “Make sure you have the Trailforks app downloaded so you can easily see where you are on the map and where all the trails are. It can be easy to get turned around as there are many trails crossing each other.”

The beach and forest terrain of Seabrook is spectacular. It truly embodies what the Washington Coast is all about – the beauty of nature. For that reason, Lain loved all 7.2 miles of mountain bike trails in Seabrook.

This was the most beginner-friendly of the trails he went on, but he said everyone will enjoy it. “The fact that really anyone, no matter the skill level, can have fun is awesome.”

Lain’s Favorite Seabrook Bike Trails

  • Rip Tide
  • 13 Tables
  • Submarine Canyon

These three were the more challenging trails, Lain shares. “They will test the skill level of more advanced riders,” he adds.

“Life in the Bike Lain” Tip: “Because of the wet beach weather climate and the clay dirt, the trails can be slick at times, so take it easy when going around turns when it is wet!”

  • Choose your camping or overnight spot – Seabrook has great beach cottage rentals! – and get ready for a ride of your life.
  • Be sure to have your Discover Pass before heading out!
  • Check the parks’ websites for camping availability and any restrictions such as burn bans.
