Paddle-a-Thon @ North Bay Park

Aug 30 @ 9:00 am – 3:30 pm

The Action Committee for Tourism (ACT) and the business’ of Ocean Shores combine to present the “Paddle-A-Thon.” This event combines the fun and excitement of Human Powered Boat Races, Poker Paddle, and Wacky Boat Races.

Those interested in Human Powered Boat Races may begin registration at 9:00 a.m., with the first 6-mile race scheduled at 10:00 a.m. All participants are required to pay a $5.00 insurance fee and provide their own life jackets and whistle for safety. A 2-mile race will be held at 12:00 p.m. followed by the Poker Paddle at 12:30 p.m. and a final “Wacky Race” at 3:00 p.m.

There will be canoes, tandem and single kayaks available for rent provided by Doug of Waterway Adventures.

There will be delicious food supplied by the Lions or you may bring your own picnic basket. Other picnic fare will be available and sold by area vendors. Prizes and surprises abound.

For a fun day and a great way to say farewell to summer, don’t miss this event.

68th Annual Seafood Festival and Craft Show

Aug 30 @ 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Bring the family to Westport and celebrate their 68th annual Seafood Festival and Craft Show. Westport seafood pro’s will be cooking up salmon, whitefish and oysters, plus shrimp cocktails, corn on the cob, salads and garlic bread. Want just a bite? Enjoy a hot dog or clam chowder. Beer or wine also available.

Horses Cut Shop Northwest Timber Revival @ Polson Museum

Aug 30 @ 12:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Horses Cut Shop presents a Northwest Timber Revival. This day-long, free to the public event features live music, a beer garden, vintage logging demonstrations and graphic t-shirts representing local, iconic timber industry brands. Sponsored by Filson, Stihl and Stanley, all profits from the Timber Revival event go to support the Natural Resources – Forestry Technician Program at nearby Grays Harbor College which serves the coastal communities of western Washington state. This two year applied associate degree program provides students with the skills needed to secure jobs in the modern-day timber industry.

3rd Annual Salmon Tales Festival @ Maritime Museum

The history of salmon sport fishing in our community is long and colorful. Hundreds of thousands of people have visited Westport in pursuit of salmon and thousands of skippers and deckhands have worked here.

During this exciting two-day event we will hold the Pacific Northwest’s Biggest Smoked Salmon Competition with pro smokers competing for bragging rights! Located across the law will be our Beer Garden featuring Westport Brewing Company selections. Composting with Worms @ Aberdeen Timberland Library

Sep 27 @ 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm

Take your composting indoors this winter! Learn about worm composting in this hands-on session with WSU Extension faculty member Chris Koehler. You will learn how to care for red wigglers, and examine living compost through a microscope. Take home educational literature and a worm mini-bin (while supplies last). Please bring gardening gloves. All other materials will be provided.

Author Visit: Dylan Tomine, “Closer to the Ground” @ Aberdeen Timberland Library

Bainbridge Island author Dylan Tomine discusses his memoir “Closer to the Ground,” an inspirational story of his family’s year living – and eating – off the land. A great NW read. This program is part of Timberland Reads Together, Timberland Regional Library’s one book-one community reading initiative for 2014.

Crush Me, Squeeze Me, Make Me Wine at the Beach Festival @ Westport Winery

Westport Winery will host the annual Crush Me, Squeeze Me, Make Me Wine at the Beach Festival. The winery will provide bins of grapes for guests of all ages to stomp into purple-footed bliss with winemaker Dana Roberts at the production cellar. The annual Lucy and Ethyl Look-A-Like Contest will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the tasting room. All ages are encouraged to enter.
