Eric H. Weppler DO, Medical laboratory director, has received official notification of successfully meeting the College of American Pathology (CAP) standards for accreditation based on results of a recent on-site inspection. Six CAP inspectors arrived unannounced in October to review over 3,200 standards of compliance for testing quality, patient safety and staff competence.

The inspection group was complimentary of the laboratory team in regard to their teamwork, quality, and engagement to learn from the inspection process. Charles Skorzewski, Director and Jane Edwards, Supervisor, recognized that this standard of excellence is exhibited throughout the year and are appreciative of the hard work, dedication, and commitment of the laboratory team.

“We are thrilled to be validated by such a prestigious organization and continue to put our patient’s needs first and strive for exceptional quality of care.” said Charles Skorzewski, Director Laboratory Services.
GHCH chief executive officer, Tom Jensen upon learning of the laboratory’s accreditation, said:

“The laboratory professionals at GHCH are strongly committed to excellence at both our east and west campus labs; this accreditation is a testament to their hard work and commitment.”

The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program.
During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
