One of Grays Harbor’s longest standing events is the annual Leaders Banquet and Business Recognition Awards, which just took place for the 127th year. Hosted each year by non-profit Greater Grays Harbor, Inc. (GGHI), this event was established to honor businesses and organizations on the Harbor. At the 2018 Banquet, Barene DenAdel, CPA was nominated as a contender for the Small Business of the Year award.
Historically hosted by the Grays Harbor Chamber of Commerce, Greater Grays Harbor, Inc. took over the event in 2012 when the Chamber and Economic Development Council merged into one organization. Today’s event is primarily a time to showcase the leaders in the community, but there are also additional elements that make the event extremely well attended each year. There are expansive silent and live auctions available to guests featuring many locally donated items and excursions. These auctions assist in raising general funds for GGHI, as well as for their Educational Fund that benefits local programs in Grays Harbor including: SkillsUSA, Aberdeen Business Week, Ocosta Robotics and Grays Harbor Youth Works.
The main aspect of the Leaders Banquet is the award portion of the night. Grays Harbor community members are given the opportunity a few months prior to the event to nominate the businesses and organizations that they feel are deserving of the following awards: Small Business of the Year, Large Business of the Year, Non-Profit of the Year and New Business of the Year. Once the nominees are submitted and counted, the GGHI membership then has the opportunity to cast their final vote on one of the top four nominees. Winners are then announced at the Leaders Banquet at the Quinault Beach Resort and Casino in Ocean Shores.
Barene DenAdel is pleased to have been nominated as one of the four finalists hoping to take home the prize of Small Business of the Year. “We’re extremely honored to be nominated for GGHI Small Business of the Year,” expresses Erin DenAdel, managing partner with Barene DenAdel, CPA. “The other three businesses nominated have made huge contributions to the success of our community and we feel pretty special to be part of this elite group. We’re definitely honored to be in the top four and be a contender.”
Barene DenAdel’s dedicated staff enables the firm to efficiently meet their client’s needs. They pride themselves on the services that they offer to the Grays Harbor community such as accurate tax advice and preparation, and full financial services using advanced and up-to-date technology. Enabling businesses to meet their full potential is one of the most satisfying aspects of their work. “One of our four core values is impact,” explains Erin. “We’ve lived out this value by focusing this past year on making an impact in the small business community through educational events like Third Thursdays or our Small Business Technology Seminars. Small businesses are the backbone of our community and we firmly believe fostering the growth of small business will make the greatest positive impact in Grays Harbor.”
At the 2018 Leaders Banquet and Business Recognition Awards on October 12, Al’s Humdinger was awarded with the 2018 title of Small Business of the Year. “I’m truly thankful for our great team of employees,” expresses Erin. “We wouldn’t have a chance at this nomination without them. It’s been fun to share this excitement with our staff, clients and biggest fans!”
