Dick Van Dyke drives Chitty Chitty Bang Bang family fantasy flick to 7th Street Theatre.
A unique family-fantasy-adventure-musical-special effects-comedy movie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is the next film showing at the Silver Screen Classics Film Series.
The physical comedy talents of Dick Van Dyke, one of television’s most popular entertainers in the ‘60s and winner of three Emmy Awards, is on exuberant and constant display throughout this energetic film. He also sings and dances in the role of an eccentric inventor who creates a flying car that can and does drive itself and his family into some wild adventures.
In addition to Van Dyke’s talents, the film employs a lot of big special effects which may seem dated by today’s computer-generated standards, but thrilled audiences young and old more than 45 years ago.
The 1968 production also boasts an amazing writing pedigree: it is loosely based on a series of children’s books by James Bond’s creator, Ian Fleming. And the screenplay is the work of Roald Dahl, who created Willy Wonka and a large body of beloved children’s literature.
Tickets are $5 and available at Harbor Drug in Hoquiam, City Drug in Aberdeen, and online at www.brownpapertickets.com.
Chuck Neighbors is performing a one man play called: “Encounters—Eye witness accounts people have with Jesus.”

The kind of epic movie adventure that begs to be seen on a theater-sized screen, “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” is the next big-screen offering at the historic 7th Street Theatre in downtown Hoquiam.
Academy Award winner in 1985 for Best Visual Effects, this second of four entries in the ‘Indy’ series is set in 1935, and positioned as a prequel to the original blockbuster hit, 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” In ‘Temple,’ Harrison Ford is teamed with Kate Capshaw, who has also been known as Mrs. Steven Spielberg since 1991.
The film is loaded with narrow escapes and huge action pieces, including the now-famous sequence of the wild mine-car chase, as well as some not-for-the-squeamish images involving human sacrifice.
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. showings. Advance tickets are available at Harbor Drug in Hoquiam, City Drug in Aberdeen and at www.brownpapertickets.com.
