The 2016 version of the Gray Harbor Expo at the Ocean Shores Convention Center, May 27, 28 and 29, has something to engage every member of the family. A car show featuring hot rods with prizes galore and a visit to memory lane for dad and mom. An art show featuring original works that include paintings, photos, glassworks, sculpture and more for those family members that want beauty in their homes and workplaces. Chainsaw carving auctions to bring home that original wood sculpture that makes just the right statement, or the bench that helps the family relax and enhances their visitor’s stay. Ice carving that provides fantastic shapes, memories and smiles especially loved by the young at heart in our families. The Home Show providing the newest, coolest and most efficient upgrades available for our family homes. Shark rides, the Big Purple Slide, cotton candy, hot dogs and kettle corn for the kid in all of us. And finally, the Memorial Day Honor Service helps us all remember.

Memorial Day has been celebrated in the United States since the late 1800’s. It is a day set aside to honor those who lost their lives in our military service to their country. The North Beach VFW Post Number 8956 Ceremonial Team from Ocean Shores, Washington will coordinate and host the Memorial Day Honor Service as part of the 9th Annual Grays Harbor Expo. The Memorial Day Honor service is held indoors at the Ocean Shores Convention Center on Saturday, May 28 in honor of our fallen Servicemen and Servicewomen.

The ceremony will start at 11:45 a.m. outdoors with a 15-gun salute to all those veterans who have paid the ultimate price. A special honor guard from the U.S. Marine Corps League Detachment #482 from McCleary, Washington, will provide this honor, including the playing of “Taps.”

As the ceremony moves indoors, a local vocalist will sing the “Star Spangled Banner.” The VFW Post Ceremonial Team will do a traditional flag folding with an explanation of the meaning of each fold. And we’ll have several speeches honoring our fallen.

As a family, you can kick off your summer by creating fun memories. Help us celebrate the beginning of summer at the 9th Annual Grays Harbor Expo on Memorial Day Weekend in Ocean Shores, Washington. Use http://www.graysharborexpo.com/ to find out more.
