Washington State University women’s rowing senior Savannah Davison has been named to the Pac-12 All-Conference team, commissioner Larry Scott announced Monday.
Davison completed her final season with the Cougars, rowing in the varsity eight boat for the second-straight year in 2016. She helped guide the Cougars to a 13th-place finish as a varsity eight crew and 12th overall team finish at the 2016 NCAA Championships. As a junior in 2015, Davison’s varsity eight crew finished ninth as the team placed eighth overall, its best finish since 2008.
In addition, Pac-12 and NCAA Champions, California, nearly swept the individual awards as second-year head coach Al Acosta was named the women’s rowing coach of the year for the second-straight year and senior Kendall Chase was named the Pac-12 Women’s Rowing Athlete of the Year for the second-straight year. Cal’s Charlotte Wesselman and Washington’s Katy Gillingham were named Pac-12 Women’s Co-Newcomers of the Year.
A native of Aberdeen, Davison becomes the 37th Cougar to earn all-conference accolades dating back to 1988. At least one WSU rower has been named to the all-conference team each of the last 21 seasons. This is the first all-conference honor for Davison.
Members of the All-Conference rowing teams are based upon each institution’s finish in the varsity eight race at the Pac-12 Championships, which were held May 15 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. The conference champion provides four members of the All-Conference team, the Pac-12 second-place crew provides three members and the third-place finisher provides two. All other participating conference crews receive one selection each.
