The Grays Harbor Community Foundation and its donors have been providing financial assistance to local students since 2000. The financial assistance has always been in the form of a scholarship support for students’ pursuit of undergraduate education or vocational programs, until last year when funds were given to the Foundation to support Elma area students’ interested in graduate and professional level education. The Haerlen Family Elma Education Loan Program was created with funds from the estate of Elizabeth Haerlen with the assistance of Elma Education.

Elizabeth Haerlen was a long time resident of Elma. She and her husband, Fred, were very active in the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star.  Mrs. Haerlen taught elementary school in Montesano for many years.  She had a great love of young people and wanted to provide further education for Elma graduates.

We are currently offering this educational loan to graduates of Elma High School for the 2017 -2018 school year. This loan is intended for Elma High School graduates entering graduate/professional school or a doctoral program; e.g., Ph.D., medical, law, veterinary. Preference will be given to students who intend to live and work in Grays Harbor County. The Foundation is offering a very favorable interest rate and candidates may be eligible for up to $10,000 per year for a total of 2 years.

For more information on how to apply for this loan and about our scholarship program visit the Grays Harbor Community Foundation website or contact our office at 360-532-1600 or info@gh-cf.org.
