Grays Harbor County roadwork: Grays Harbor county drivers have already encountered day and night single-lane and shoulder closures in both directions of US 12 over the past few months. Contractor crews for the Washington State Department of Transportation will now begin a new chapter of work by officially kicking off a fish barrier correction project that replaces a culvert that runs under the highway west of Devonshire Road near Montesano.

Next week, crews will start an around-the-clock summer-long traffic shift that will reduce US 12 from two lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction. The speed limit will also be lowered from 60 mph to 25 mph through the duration of the project. The exact date of the traffic shift will depend on work progress and weather conditions, but could begin as soon as Monday, July 23.

The existing culvert will be replaced with a 220-foot-long concrete box structure that will open up two miles of potential fish habitat. The project is expected to be complete late fall.

Real-time traffic information is available on the WSDOT traffic app and on the Olympic Region Weekly Construction and Traffic Updates web page.
