Port Commissioners were joined by playground donors, community members and a host of eager kids last Friday for the ribbon cutting of the new Friends Landing playground and the beginning of the 2019 camping season.
The project included relocation and replacement of the original playground installed when the park was first developed 20 years ago. The new playground features equipment specifically designed to incorporate accessibility for all. The project was made possible by donations from the Ben B. Cheney Foundation, the Forest Foundation, the Kelsey Foundation, Grays Harbor Community Foundation, The Pasha Group, the Port of Grays Harbor, Puget Sound & Pacific Railroad, the Seabrook Community Foundation, Sierra Pacific Foundation, and the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund.
“The project would not have been possible without the generosity of our donors,” shared Satsop Business Park Manager of Business Development Alissa Shay. “We can’t thank them enough for helping us continue the original vision for Friends Landing to provide public access to the outdoors for all.”
“The Port Commission remains committed to providing recreation and waterfront access. We are proud to provide this exceptional public facility and new playground for our community and visitors alike,” said Commissioner Phil Papac.
Friday, March 15, also kicked off the beginning of the 2019 camping season. Friends Landing offers 18 RV sites with electrical and water hookups as well as 10 tent sites with water available.
Friends Landing, a facility of the Port of Grays Harbor, is located outside of Montesano, WA and offers 152 acres of recreation opportunities on the Chehalis River and Lake Quigg including hiking, fishing, boating, picnicking and camping.
