March 1 is a big deal in my house. It means a month of eating as much corned beef in as many forms as possible: Ruben, hash, and of course corned beef and cabbage. Even with all the pandemic craziness, nothing will stop me from eating my fill of Irish-American fare in March, and I am sure I am not alone! So, put on some green and head out to our local restaurants and pubs. Here are a few places to find corned beef in Grays Harbor on St. Patrick’s Day and throughout the month of March.
880 Point Brown Avenue NE, Ocean Shores
Galway Bay Irish Restaurant and Pub is of course a great place to go to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Grays Harbor. It’s not just a restaurant and a pub, they also have an amazing Celtic store that feels like you are stepping into a stone cottage in Galway itself. All that’s missing are the swans by the shore. Here you can get all sorts of Irish fare, from Irish lattes that are house-infused Bushmills Irish whiskey and espresso beans served over ice with simple syrup and half and half, topped with whipped cream, to traditional Irish fare you won’t find anywhere else on the coast like colcannon. The menu is substantial and has everything you could want, including a corned beef sandwich, corned beef hash and a traditional Irish breakfast. They even have a St. Patrick pizza! Check out their Facebook page for news on the St. Patrick’s Day Gift Basket Giveaway.
526 8th Street, Hoquiam
The Hoquiam Brewery has a Ruben sandwich made with hand-trimmed corned beef, 1000 island dressing, sauerkraut and swiss inside a thick rye bread. This is a staple on their menu, so come in anytime during the month of March to celebrate with this favorite.
101 E Wishkah Street, Aberdeen
At Steam Donkey Brewing, St. Patrick’s Day is extra special as it’s also their anniversary! This year they are celebrating four years in Aberdeen with a special menu. They will be open on Wednesday, March 17 serving up fun food and drinks themed around the holiday. “The menu will be posted on Instagram, Facebook and on our website the week before,” says a Stefanie Bennett, who owns Steam Donkey Brewing with her husband Jon, “and I do believe that Steam Donkey is releasing a couple new beers, and of course pouring green beer the day of as well.” Check their Facebook or Instagram pages for their St. Patrick’s Day menu.
Porthole Pub Bar & Grill
893 Point Brown Avenue NW, Ocean Shores
Porthole Pub Bar & Grill also has a Ruben sandwich on their menu. You can eat inside, or they have a clear front patio enclosure where you can sit and take in the view as you feast on this corned beef favorite.
1605 Simpson Ave, Aberdeen
Duffy’s Restaurant in Aberdeen is a great place to go for your St. Patrick’s Day celebration. They have several items on the menu that are sure to fill your belly. You can start with corned beef hash, topped with two eggs and a side of toast. They serve the hash until 4 p.m. For lunch of dinner, try their grilled Ruben with sauerkraut and swiss cheese on rye or their Irish beef stew that’s served with a roll. Be sure to head to the Leprechaun’s Bar for a Bailey’s and coffee to end your night right.
