Lewis County native Beth Peterson will talk about her new book,“Life After Lightning,” at the McCleary, Elma and Aberdeen Timberland Libraries this August.
The book chronicles Peterson’s near-death experiences, having been twice struck by lightning. The result has been extensive physical and emotional damage, multiple surgeries and a lengthy recovery.
In her book and her public talks, Peterson reveals how she persevered through the pain, grief and loss. She encourages people to live in balance with others and offers insights on topics such as family, spiritual recovery and discovering one’s true direction in life.

Douglas Rhoades, author of “Labels, Leadville and Lore” will speak on reading food labels and how labels have changed our history. The first 20 people will receive a copy of his book. Register online here or by calling the library at 360-273-5305.

Add metallic parts like watch gears to hats and necklaces; make temporary tattoos and play quirky Victorian parlor games, all to a background of steampunk images and rock music. Bring a favorite stuffed animal toy for a sleepover at the library. After an evening of stories, rhymes, songs and movement games, we’ll tuck the animals in and say goodnight. Calling all lovers of the night sky. Join in a session of fascinating astronomy activities. Use glow-in-the-dark paint to create your own star chart for tracking the constellations, discover your star sign, make an astrolabe, simulate a black hole, and make a miniature simulation of the expansion of the universe.
