The North Beach Singers of Ocean Shores will host a Kick-Off to begin preparing for their Winter Concerts in December. New members are welcome.
Horses Cut Shop presents a Northwest Timber Revival. This day-long, free to the public event features live music, a beer garden, vintage logging demonstrations and graphic t-shirts representing local, iconic timber industry brands. Sponsored by Filson, Stihl and Stanley, all profits from the Timber Revival event go to support the Natural Resources – Forestry Technician Program at nearby Grays Harbor College which serves the coastal communities of western Washington state. This two year applied associate degree program provides students with the skills needed to secure jobs in the modern-day timber industry.

Come out to see cult classic and rarity Miami Connection (1987) at the historic 7th Street Theatre! All proceeds for this showing benefit the local animal rescue Harbor Rescue – “saving people, one dog at a time”!
We worked hard to get a super fun, cult-following film! Don’t miss out on a one-time event! We will also be featuring food and raffle items from local businesses such as Passport Cafe and Rediviva. This isn’t just a movie, it’s a fun community event and it’s all for a good cause – helping Harbor Rescue with abandonment and neglect cases and making life better for all citizens of Grays Harbor – four-legged and two-legged.
“The year is 1987. Motorcycle ninjas tighten their grip on Florida’s narcotics trade, viciously annihilating anyone who dares move in on their turf. The film is not rated. It features drug references, brief nudity, and martial arts violence.

The South Beach Arts Association is proud to offer a photography workshop with the amazing nature photographer Marlin Greene.
The workshop is a combination of field trips for capturing images and class work with Photoshop for enhancing them. We will spend one full day looking for magical images in the field and then another full day exploring how to enhance them. This workshop is designed for serious beginners and intermediate “camera users” with a burning passion to make better photographs.
Day one starts with a discussion on the basics of digital cameras to help make informed decisions about what camera best matches your photography goals. Following the discussion will be a field trip in which we will visit several local areas for inspiration.
We look for situations that make your eyes light up and your shutter finger get excited. Then we go over the technical considerations that will enable you to
capture what you are seeing and feeling: light, composition, camera settings. Is the subject clear and distinct? Are you in the right position?
The goal is to help you see the magical wonder of the natural world and then coax you to get the best possible image within the constraints of the camera and the
conditions. Every image is a compromise. We will discuss how the trade-offs play in the creative process.
Day two will include a Photoshop session and begin with the basic tools at our disposal. We will look at how every digital image is an electronic representation built from numbers in a database. We will see how the software designers have created useful gadgets that we use to manipulate these numbers and change colors, adjust light, alter composition and more.
The following are topics that will be discussed during the workshop:
- RAW versus JPG – what format to shoot
- Resolution sizing and saving images for print and Internet
- Correcting bad exposure
- Enhancing shadows and light areas
- Correcting color
- Removing and retouching parts of the image
- Understanding layers
- Sharpening
- Redefining the composition

This is a four person, shotgun start, golf tournament sponsored by Grays Harbor Volunteer Search and Rescue where all proceeds will go towards equipment and training for this non-profit group.
Admission includes 18 holes of golf plus a catered lunch at the Grays Harbor Country Club with a few fun surprises too! Hole sponsorship is $75 and will get your name proudly displayed at a tee box. A New York Magazine cover story in 1985 used the term “Brat Pack” to describe the five stars of John Hughes’ hit film: Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Michael Anthony Hall, Ally Sheedy and Judd Nelson. Other young stars also became known as Brat Pack members, including Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy and Demi Moore.
In “The Breakfast Club,” the five high school students from different crowds in school (a nerd, a jock, a prom queen, a delinquent, and a loner) are thrown together for a Saturday detention in their school library. As the day progresses, each member tells the story of why they are in detention, and by day’s end they realize they have more in common than they ever imagined.
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. showings. Tickets will be available at the door. Advance tickets are available at Harbor Drug in Hoquiam, City Drug in Aberdeen and at online at brownpapertickets.com.
The history of salmon sport fishing in our community is long and colorful. Hundreds of thousands of people have visited Westport in pursuit of salmon and thousands of skippers and deckhands have worked here.
During this exciting two-day event we will hold the Pacific Northwest’s Biggest Smoked Salmon Competition with pro smokers competing for bragging rights! Located across the law will be our Beer Garden featuring Westport Brewing Company selections. Vincent Price delivers suspense and horror at the House of Wax, at 7Street Theatre October 4-5.
The first use of 3D technology in a major Hollywood movie was the gimmick that made the 1953 film, House of Wax, a huge box office hit.
The suspense/horror film is the next offering of the Silver Screen Classics Film Series.
Compared with current 3D movies, “House of Wax” is pretty passé, mostly two-dimensional with most of its 3D shots gimmicks such as a ping pong ball seemingly leaping off the screen into viewers’ laps. The movie will not be shown in 3D at 7th Street Theatre.
Top-billed Vincent Price was an established minor role actor when House of Wax pushed his career into a new direction – gothic horror movies such as House of Usher and The Pit and the Pendulum. Here, Price plays a gifted but ultimately demented wax sculptor, seemingly come back from the dead to wreak vengeance on his murderous business partner.
