Come join us on the Maritime Museum Grounds for Westport’s Annual Seafood Festival, Fun Arts and Crafts, and Live Music. Seafood pro’s will be cooking up salmon, whitefish and oysters, plus shrimp cocktails, corn on the cob, salads and garlic bread. Want just a bite? Enjoy a hot dog or clam chowder. This interactive, hands-on workshop will cover board responsibilities, operations, development, fundraising, and advocacy. It is based on the Boards in Gear resources developed in partnership with some of our state’s leading board experts. You will leave with concrete action steps, tools, and connections.
This workshop is designed for board members and the people who work with them, namely executive directors and program staff. It offers ideas for new board members and those who have served for a long time. It is appropriate for organizations of all sizes, whether they have staff or not.
On the third Thursday of each month, The Arc of Grays Harbor offers an informative Parent Support group for parents of kids with developmental disabilities. Contact Charlene at 360-537-7000 for more information.
This session will be the capstone event for “Learnings from the Chehalis.” Over the past 15 years, community volunteers, citizens, and government agencies have been putting effort in to making the Chehalis River clean and healthy for people, fish and wildlife. How well have we done? This session will look at progress made on water quality improvement, salmon habitat restoration, water conservation, and the impacts of regulations and policies.
Our capstone talk will be held by a panel from the Chehalis Basin Partnership. The Chehalis Basin Partnership was formed in 1998 to provide a framework for local citizens, interest groups, and government organizations to work collaboratively to identify and solve water-related issues. Join us for the third annual “Harvest by the Sea”, a benefit dinner honoring Coastal Harvest. The evening starts off with Cocktail Hour at 6:00 pm featuring beer brewed right here in the harbor by Steam Donkey Brewing Company and a wine paring poured by GH Wine Sellars. As you are enjoying a selection of delicious appetizers, entertainment will be provided by Ericka Corban, as seen on “The Voice”. Dinner will be catered by Mill 109 and served at 7:00 pm. The evening will wrap up with a “Desert Auction” where you will have the opportunity to select from a variety of cakes, cupcakes, pies and much more made specially for this event.
Are you watching kids scroll through life with a six-second attention span and rapid fire thumbs? Join physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston as she examines how teenagers screen time impacts their life and friction within the home, while also exploring the larger consequences of technology on society as a whole. A World Cafe style discussion will follow the viewing. For adults and teens.
The cost of the ticket covers entry into a door prize drawing, live entertainment, non-alcoholic drinks, and a large German themed meal. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.
All money raised will be used to help our neighbors in the Grays Harbor community. Projects include expanding 1st Presbyterian’s facility into a larger community garden, purchasing hygiene and school items for distribution by local churches and nonprofits, other assistance for families and neighbors in need, and funding Saron’s new monthly after school and free dinner program. The festival also features a popular cook-off, hands-on water quality exhibits, and is itself a giant a food pavilion with nearly 100 unique items on the menu: BBQ oysters, fritters, spring rolls, garlic shrimp, fresh cider and so much more. Better yet, your culinary adventure supports about 100 local non-profit service clubs and organizations, as well as funding scholarships and local community improvement projects.

Paint a Seahawk During the Seahawk/Rams Game. You will walk away with an irreplaceable memory and a masterpiece. No artistic ability is needed – you will be guided through the process step-by-step. We supply everything needed to paint. We advise that you dress for the mess, and bring an apron from home. Seahawks game will be playing, Elks bar open!
The luncheon will begin with candidates introducing themselves and sharing why they want to run for the office and their qualifications. Public may ask questions of candidates following all introductions. Candidates expected to attend are those running for Grays Harbor County Treasurer, Elma City Council, Grays Harbor Hospital District #1 (Summit Pacific Medical Center), Grays Harbor Fire District #5 and Elma School District #68 Directors.

The course will weave through downtown Elma, past the high school and back through the community, ending on Summit Pacific’s community wellness trail and healing garden.

The Peak Health Wellness Fair will host more than 30 vendors who will be providing free information, giveaways and health screenings such as vision, hearing, blood pressure and glucose testing. Thanks in part to Summit Pacific Medical Foundation, children will have access to free bike helmets (while supplies last), important safety lessons at the bike rodeo hosted by Elma High School and have an opportunity to tour vehicles such as an ambulance and fire truck. Some other crowd favorite activities are the massage and reflexology booths!

As part of the Great Washington ShakeOut, tsunami alert sirens will be tested at 10:19 a.m. using the real sound of the siren, not the Westminster Chimes that typically happen during the monthly tests. NOAA weather radios set to receive the required monthly test will also activate during this test. The tests will happen across every coastal community in the state, except for Sandy Point in Whatcom County, which has opted out of the test. The state works with local jurisdictions to install the All Hazard Alert Broadcast sirens on the coast. Five new sirens are being installed this month in Seabrook, Ocean Shores, Bellingham, Port of Chinook and Raymond bringing the total number of coastal sirens to 69.
Question and Answer sessions with earthquake experts will be done using Facebook Live and Washington Emergency Management’s Nextdoor account in the days before ShakeOut. On Oct. 19, earthquake preparedness experts from the Washington Emergency Management Division will join scientists with the Washington Department of Natural Resources and the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network to gather online for a Reddit Ask Me Anything – an online Q&A. The public is invited to ask questions here.
New this year, middle school and high school students are creating videos to show the best ways to drop, cover and hold on. Prizes are being awarded by our partners at the Cascadia Region Earthquake Workgroup. The deadline to submit is Oct. 13. More information found here.
