This is a four person, shotgun start, golf tournament sponsored by Grays Harbor Volunteer Search and Rescue where all proceeds will go towards equipment and training for this non-profit group.

Admission includes 18 holes of golf plus a catered lunch at the Grays Harbor Country Club with a few fun surprises too! Hole sponsorship is $75 and will get your name proudly displayed at a tee box. Grays Harbor’s two tall ships return to their home port of Aberdeen for public tours and sailings before heading to California for their 2014-2015 tour of Golden State ports. Hawaiian Chieftain arrives at Seaport Landing on Sept. 4 for brief stay through Sept. 7. In addition to making final preparations for California, she’ll offer public tours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, as well as public Adventure Sails at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 and Sunday, Sept. 7. Tickets are $43 all ages.

Lady Washington arrives at Seaport Landing Sept. 16 for a 17-day stay in Grays Harbor, including two days at Westport Sept. 27-28. During her time at Seaport Landing, crews on Lady Washington will conduct routine maintenance and offer public tours and excursions. The ship is open for tours Tuesday to Friday, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Here’s the excursion schedule:

For infants from birth to 24 months, accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver. Join in programs of very short stories, songs, rhymes, and play and discover the joy of language with your baby. Afterward, adults can visit while babies play with toys and sturdy books.

Author Christopher Chapman presents his new book, “A Roadside Guide to the Olympic Peninsula,” a guide for the casual, car-bound adventurer. Books will be available for purchase. A book signing will follow the talk.

The movie that spawned the Hollywood “Brat Pack,” the teen angst comedy-drama “The Breakfast Club,” is the next big screen offering at the historic 7th Street Theatre in downtown Hoquiam.

A New York Magazine cover story in 1985 used the term “Brat Pack” to describe the five stars of John Hughes’ hit film: Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Michael Anthony Hall, Ally Sheedy and Judd Nelson. Other young stars also became known as Brat Pack members, including Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy and Demi Moore.

In “The Breakfast Club,” the five high school students from different crowds in school (a nerd, a jock, a prom queen, a delinquent, and a loner) are thrown together for a Saturday detention in their school library. As the day progresses, each member tells the story of why they are in detention, and by day’s end they realize they have more in common than they ever imagined.

Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. showings. Tickets will be available at the door. Advance tickets are available at Harbor Drug in Hoquiam, City Drug in Aberdeen and at  online at brownpapertickets.com.

The history of salmon sport fishing in our community is long and colorful. Hundreds of thousands of people have visited Westport in pursuit of salmon and thousands of skippers and deckhands have worked here.

During this exciting two-day event we will hold the Pacific Northwest’s Biggest Smoked Salmon Competition with pro smokers competing for bragging rights! Located across the law will be our Beer Garden featuring Westport Brewing Company selections. Take your composting indoors this winter! Learn about worm composting in this hands-on session with WSU Extension faculty member Chris Koehler. You will learn how to care for red wigglers, and examine living compost through a microscope. Take home educational literature and a worm mini-bin (while supplies last).
