Artists of all types are invited to join renowned watercolor instructor Ken Mitchell in a watercolor workshop at Westport Winery. This course is for all levels, from beginners to experienced artists. East Meets West will focus on Ken’s teaching at Harper’s Ferry to themes from Kalaloch.
Mitchell has a BA and MA in Fine Arts from Colorado State University. He has taught art at all levels for the past 30 years and has won numbers awards for his watercolor and oil paintings. From murals to stage sets to illustrations, Ken has excelled as a professional artist his entire life as he has also taught others the techniques to pursue their own dreams.
The course fee includes instruction only. Students need to bring their own paper, pencils, watercolors, brushes, and non-glass containers (see complete list below). Lunch is available to purchase during class. Sack lunches and outside food and drinks are not allowed.

Children love using color to create and learn. Families can have hands-on fun together creating new colors, sorting and matching objects, and playing around with colorful shapes. This event is part of Summer Reading, a Timberland Regional Library districtwide program.

Our popular three-hour Battle Sails feature booming cannons, close-quarters maneuvers, and a taste of 18th century maritime life aboard tall ships. A ticket is required for all passengers, including babes in arms. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Groups of 8 or more automatically receive a 15 percent ticket discount when they buy online.

U is for Ukulele! The Harmonica Pocket brings the ABCs to life. Favorite nursery rhymes, beloved books and original songs are mixed up with playful skits to celebrate reading and the alphabet. Cowboy Buck and Elizabeth entertain with an upbeat, highly interactive show of music and comedy with dancing, sing-alongs, cheek slappin’ and ventriloquism. This event is part of Summer Reading, a Timberland Regional Library districtwide program.
Alex Zerbe’s zany new show, “Gravity Catastrophe,” demonstrates basic concepts of physics through the art of juggling. In his wacky way, Zerbe helps kids understand gravity, friction, center of mass and gyroscopic stability. Children will also discover the six simple machines and see the lever, inclined plane and the wheel and axle in action. This event is part of Summer Reading, a Timberland Regional Library districtwide program.
Eat ice cream, talk about books you like, and hear about more books. Help make the second annual Ice Cream and Books zine (a handmade magazine) about a book you like. Refreshments provided by the Friends of the Aberdeen Timberland Library. This event is part of Summer Reading, a Timberland Regional Library districtwide program.
