The City of Cosmopolis is inviting the public to join us on Memorial Day as we hold
a Dedication Ceremony for a series of memorial banners to honor military
veterans.
For over 150 years, Memorial Day has served as a day to honor and mourn military
personnel who have died while serving in the United States armed forces.
The first national observance of Memorial Day occurred on May 30, 1868, but
honoring our veterans has always been a standing practice since the founding of
our nation.
In coordination with Aberdeen VFW Post & Auxiliary 224, the City will be holding
a ceremony outside of City Hall starting at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 29, 2023 to
unveil and dedicate these new banners. The city will be installing the banners on
light poles along First Street/US 101 ahead of the dedication.
City Administrator Darrin Raines stated, ““We are honored to be able to help
recognize the sacrifice and service of our fallen heroes that will be displayed on
these banners. This annual display of the memorial banners is an event that we
hope can grow into our neighboring communities.”
The event will feature speakers including Jim Daly, representing the VFW,
alongside local officials.
Any members of the public are invited to attend.
A One-Man Wood Art Exposition by Tom Baker, woodturner. Meet the artist at this Opening Reception on Saturday, June 3rd from 11 am to 4 pm. Food and refreshments will be available!
The Fire Rescue Spectacular, July 8, is the ultimate firefighter and first-responder experience for kids! At the free street fair kids can explore a fleet of emergency vehicles, meet first responders, take the Junior Fighter Challenge, enjoy free ice cream, and so much more!

The Museum of the North Beach will be hosting a book signing on Saturday, August 12 from 10am to 12 noon for Exploring Maritime Washington by author Erich Ebel.

Erich R. Ebel was born in Spokane, Washington, and has had stories to tell ever since. Erich spent several hours at the Museum of the North Beach in April 2021 doing research. His 222 page book sells for $24.00 and is loaded with photographs including a segment about the Museum, some of our local history and the amazing story of the 1892 shipwreck of the British bark Ferndale at Copalis Beach.
The FOSLS LAKE SYLVIA STATE PARK FALL FESTIVAL continues the tradition for our 12th year!
Come join us on SUNDAY, September 10th, 2023 from 8:30 – 4:00 for a day filled with fun and family activities.
If you enjoy running we have trail Races that begin at 8:30 am. From 10 – 4, you can find one of a kind art and hand crafted treasures at the Artisans Market and eat delicious food while enjoying great live music by talented local acts all on the peaceful shores of beautiful Lake Sylvia. There will also be a kayak paddling adventure, a Watershed Festival by the GH Stream Team, Galaxy Harbor Dancers and educational exhibits in the Legacy Pavilion. You can decorate a pumpkin or take a group photo in our photo booth and we will have kids activities as well.
Park for free at Simpson School (519 Simpson Ave W, Montesano WA), and take a free shuttle to the Festival. Parking inside the park is limited and requires a Discover Pass. North Beach PAWS, a private, independent, all-volunteer, no-kill animal shelter dedicated to saving the lives of unwanted and homeless dogs and cats, is set to hold a gala dinner auction at the Ocean Shores Convention Center on Saturday, November 4. The event signals the return of North Beach PAWS’ signature fundraiser and will help homeless and abandoned animals as well as support the day-to-day operation of the shelter.
The North Beach PAWS Dinner Auction, featuring an appearance by the Ocean Shores Pirates, will be emceed by Mike Valdez, with Eric Bjella serving as auctioneer. Grays Harbor College Civic Choir Director Kari Hasbrouck will perform live.
“We are very excited about holding our annual Dinner Auction once again! After several years of dealing with COVID and needing to avoid social settings, it is finally possible to gather safely and have this annual Fundraising event for North Beach PAWS,” said Lorna Valdez, president, North Beach PAWS. “We hope you and your family members and friends will join us for an evening of fun and the opportunity to bid on some lovely items in our Silent and Live Auctions and in doing so help support our Shelter. We look forward to seeing you there!”
Numerous local businesses and organizations such as Five Star Dealerships, Seabrook, and the Quinault Nation have donated auction items for the event.
Tickets are $45/each and can be purchased at Jip and Gwenners Pet Boutique, Ocean Sunset Drug, Flying Cats Gift Shoppe, the Dusty Trunk, the Ocean Shores Convention Center box office, and the North Beach PAWS garage sale (Saturdays, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.).
Come join the fun as we bring in the Yule Log to celebrate the season from 1pm -4pm at Schafer State Park! Experience a Schafer Park historic tradition as we celebrate in the Large Community Shelter where the fire will be roaring and great memories will be made.
Children of all ages will hunt for the Yule log and bring it back to be cut and put into the fire for good luck in the coming year.
Bring goodies to share or share your creative talents in the Gingerbread and Holiday Baking Contest, which is open to all ages and all skill levels. Avalon Glassworks from West Seattle is returning to the Museum of the North Beach in Moclips for their annual art glass float sale on Sunday, March 24 from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
The 2024 special edition Moclips float is called “Wild Iris” with colorful twisting bands of yellow, blue and green on a clear background. Each float measures 4″ in diameter and is stamped “Moclips-By-The-Sea” on the sealing button.
The float sells for $45.00 with 50% of the proceeds going to the Museum. This is the 20th special edition Moclips glass float produced by Avalon.
