Urology may be a medical field that the average person doesn’t think about regularly, though the subject is something we, as humans, deal with on a day to day basis. However, it is a field that makes use of cutting edge surgical technology and employs highly sought-after practitioners to work in a competitive and exciting environment. In Grays Harbor, we are lucky to have a Urology specialist, Stephen B. Reznicek, MD, FACS.
Dr. Reznicek moved to Grays Harbor in 2010 after practicing for seven years in Michigan and working as a Clinical Professor in Urology prior to 1993 at the University of California San Diego. He received his undergrad degree from the University of Nebraska in Mathematics and then went to medical school at the University of Iowa.
Urology focuses on the surgical and medical diseases of the male and female urinary tract system and the male reproductive organs. Urologists are able to treat the kidneys, bladder and genital structures in both sexes and patients of all ages. Many people will suffer from urinary tract difficulties in their lifetime, such as difficulty emptying the bladder, incontinence, discomfort, bleeding and complications involving intercourse, but Urologists such as Dr. Reznicek have the advanced technology to correct these issues through a variety of tests and procedures. Many treatments are minimally invasive and can provide a better quality of life for those suffering from these common problems.
Dr. Reznicek is an advocate for living a healthy lifestyle. He recommends that his patients get regular exercise, eat healthy and keep their weight under control. He believes that a healthy lifestyle can help to minimize our need for medication, and he is an example of putting this idea into practice. He enjoys hiking, fishing, skiing, biking and backpacking on a regular basis. His active lifestyle is fitting for a life in the Pacific Northwest and he was excited to come to Grays Harbor in order to enjoy the close proximity to the ocean, the Olympic mountain range and the Cascades.
Though the life of a doctor is often a busy one, Dr. Reznicek most enjoys interacting one-on-one with his patients at his office. Major improvements in the field of Urology have been made in recent years. “Urology scope miniaturization and imaging enhancements have markedly improved our ability to diagnose serious conditions earlier, and has made the treatment of kidney stones and urological cancers much less invasive,” says Dr. Reznicek.
Dr. Reznicek practices at Grays Harbor Community Hospital and his clinic is open for appointments Monday through Thursday, 7:30am to 5:30pm.
