The Aberdeen Rotary Club has announced recipients of their Student of the Month award. Each year the Rotary Club of Aberdeen honors Aberdeen High School Seniors through the Student of the Month recognition and scholarship program. One senior is recognized each month October through May. Two of these eight students are then selected in June for either the $1000 “Blue” or $2000 “Gold” scholarship to the school of their choice.
Erika Nelson is the October Student of the Month. Erika is a chapter, state, and national officer for a Career and Technical Student Organization known as SkillsUSA. Erika has earned 2 varsity letters in volleyball and is currently in her second term as Leo Club President. Erika was awarded the Aberdeen Revitalization Movement award in the youth category. She is a Top Scholar in both orchestra and volleyball.
Jordan Logan is the November Student of the Month. He was the CEO of the top earning team during Aberdeen Rotary Business week. He is a scholar athlete in football, wrestling and baseball in all freshman, sophomore and junior years. He received top scholar for football and wrestling, the Perry Clark Academic Award, Jud Graham Award, and the Great American Rivalry student athlete scholarship award. He was a state participant in wrestling with honorable mention and wrestling captain for the 2013-2014 season.
Molly Rabung is the December Student of the Month. She is a member of the Leo and Renaissance Clubs. She plays on the golf team and was the swim team captain for the 2012 season. She is a member of Honor Society and marching band. After graduation Molly hopes to spend her senior trip helping build schools in Africa. She plans to attend Richmond University in England where she will study fashion marketing.
Griffin Hood is the January Student of the Month. He is the Executive President of ASB and leader for the Percussion section in band. He is on the Golf team and has played in the marching band and jazz band for four years. Griffin has served as a Student Leader at Outdoor School, which is a one week program in the spring that teaches sixth graders about forestry sciences. Griffin has been awarded the Silver and Gold award from the Aberdeen and Hoquiam ASB’s, and also the Aberdeen Revitalization Movement Youth Citizenship Award. Griffin hopes to attend the University of Washington to study Political Science and then pursue a career related to politics.
Amelia McIntosh is our February Student of the Month. She practices leadership with the Girl Scouts and as a member of the Renaissance Action Team. She organized a Red Cross blood drive as her senior project. She is a Scholar Athlete and a two year varsity-letter earner for golf. She was CEO of her Business Week company. She plans to transfer a Grays Harbor College Associate of Arts degree to Western Washington University to pursue a degree in Spanish Education.
Kellen Schroeder is the March Student of the Month. He has competed in SkillsUSA for three years, taking two state titles last year in major appliance and HVAC, and also took 5th in the nation at nationals in major appliance. Kellen maintains a GPA of 3.85 and plans to attend Bates Technical College in Tacoma, Wash., to become a certified HVAC technician.
Alejandra Cabrales is the April Student of the month. Alejandra is a member of the Renaissance Club and the Link Crew, a freshmen mentoring program. She is the business manager for the Annual AHS Yearbook. Alejandra was CEO of her company at Business Week. Her post high school plan is to attend Western Washington University where she will take some business classes and go to Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary studies. She plans to take any pre-law classes and then enroll at a law school.
Alexxi Timmons is the May Student of the Month. Active in sports, Alexxi plays three varsity sports including soccer, basketball, and softball. She has been a captain for all three sports the past two years. She is a member of World Class Scholars and a People’s Choice Award recipient. Alexxi has won numerous athletic honors as well as being a 12 Varsity Letter Earner, 12 Time Scholar Athlete and 6 Time Top Scholar. She will be playing Division II Softball in West Virginia at Alderson Broaddus University where she will study Psychology with the goal of becoming an FBI Profiler or a Sports Psychologist.
