Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Monday, August 31, drivers who use the US 101 Simpson Avenue Bridge in Hoquiam will be detoured via the nearby Riverside Avenue Bridge that will have been reconfigured to accommodate two-way traffic.
At the same time, the Simpson Avenue Bridge will be closed around the clock for six weeks so crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation can repaint the bridge. This complete closure will allow crews to accelerate the time needed to complete the work. Repainting the bridge is an investment in the state’s infrastructure and dovetails into WSDOT’s previous extensive efforts to preserve the bridge.
Heavy rain, strong winds and cold temperatures could delay the reopening, which is projected to occur in mid-October.
Additional information
- Local businesses will remain accessible.
- The bridge will be painted “Steel Gray.” WSDOT generally maintains the bridge’s original color when bridges are repainted.
