Showing thanks and sharing generosity is important no matter what time of year it is. But during the holidays, people’s hearts seem to grow a little bit bigger.

During the holidays, families come together to share memories, good food and gifts with their loved ones. But this holiday season, there’s another way you can extend your gratitude and generosity in a way that touches your entire community.

Earlier this year when Grays Harbor Community Hospital needed new EKG equipment, the Grays Harbor Community Hospital Foundation was able to provide funding for two of the five EKGs the hospital requested.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. Roughly 610,000 Americans die from a form of heart disease each year — that’s one in every four deaths. Having the proper equipment to monitor people’s hearts is vital to ensuring the health of a community, which is why Grays Harbor Community Hospital has made it a priority to outfit its facility with state of the art EKGs and heart monitoring equipment.

But the hospital needs your help.

On Saturday, November 14 at 5:30 p.m., the Grays Harbor Community Hospital Foundation is hosting a gala to raise funds to purchase three additional EKG machines for Grays Harbor Community Hospital — and you’re invited.

“It’s an exciting event,” says Grays Harbor Community Hospital Foundation Chair, Pamela Nygaard. “We haven’t done anything this big in a long time.”

The event, which takes place at the D & R Theater, is expected to draw 200 attendees. Tickets are $100 and include a sit-down, four-course dinner prepared by John and Leslie O’Brien. Each course will be paired with a glass of wine and live music from a local jazz group. After dinner, guests can get their paddles ready to bid on exciting items during the live auction.

“Our focus is trying to bring out the best of the entire community,” says Nygaard. “Some of the auction items we’re going to have are a package for Westport, a package for Ocean Shores and a package for the Lake Quinault Lodge.” All funds raised during the event will go toward the heart health fund and purchasing new EKGs and other heart-focused equipment for Grays Harbor Community Hospital.

Nygaard says the Grays Harbor Community Hospital Foundation doesn’t currently have a signature event, but she says that could change after this gala.

Bringing people together over food, music and fun in support of a cause that benefits the entire community and is a great way to give back to your neighbors this holiday season — and it’s also a fun way to learn more about the equipment and technology being used at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. “What’s exciting about the event is we’re going to have one of our specialists on-site with an EKG machine who will demonstrate a bit of what it does,” says Nygaard.

The Grays Harbor Community Hospital Foundation’s mission is to support the hospital through fundraising efforts. “The success of the hospital is the success of the community,” says Nygaard.
