Forest Service Seeks Expressions of Interest for Satsop Center Campground

Submitted by Forest Service

The Olympic National Forest is seeking expressions of interest to provide public services at Satsop Center located southeast of Wynoochee Lake 36 miles north of Montesano, Washington.

Satsop Center is a 15-acre recreation site with camping amenities that sits on a historic logging camp location.

The site was temporarily closed in early January 2024 due to safety concerns and deferred maintenance needs. Several structures on site were no longer serviceable and were removed for safety. Remediation and decommissioning work on the site was completed in September 2024.

The Forest Service is now positioned to pursue the next chapter of public use at Satsop.

The Request For Expressed Interest (RFEI) is the first step in a dialog between the Forest Service and people interested in exploring new opportunities for the future of Satsop Center.

Public or private entities with interest in managing the site are encouraged to respond to the RFEI by submitting a RFEI Submission Form (Appendix C) to Kathryn McGillvray, Kathryn.Mcgillvray@usda.gov with the subject line ‘Satsop Work Center RFEI Submission’ (preferred method) or send a written Submission Form by 5 p.m. on Dec. 20, 2024, to:

Olympic National Forest Supervisor’s Office
1835 Black Lake Blvd SW
Olympia, WA 98512

The RFEI, including a description of the opportunity, Forest Service policy, submission criteria and format, can be found on our website.

Interested parties are also encouraged to attend a site visit to Satsop Center on Dec. 3, 2024, and a virtual question and answer session with the Forest staff on Dec. 4, 2024.

To attend either event please RSVP by Nov. 22, 2024, with Kathryn McGillvray, Supervisory Forest Recreation Manager at Kathryn.Mcgillvray@usda.gov.

This RFEI is open to all interested parties. An RFEI is not a formal offering for the award of a contract or for participation in future solicitation. Any future steps are dependent on response to this RFEI.

The work center offers various facilities and services including camp sites, RV sites, groups sites, and government owned buildings. Refer to the RFEI for maps, pictures, and a list of facilities included in the offering.
