Bill Brookreson, chair of the South Sound Chapter of the Washington Native Plants Society will begin the day with a talk at the Grays Harbor Community College where we will learn the ins and outs of our unique coastal ecosystems. Then we will head out into one of CRBLT’s most beautiful properties to shine a new light on the flora of our PNW coastal lowlands. Prepare for a short drive (carpooling is encouraged!) from the Grays Harbor College to our 175-acre surge plains to enjoy a beautiful nature walk. Be sure to bring rain gear, boots, or sunscreen as needed for a walk in unpredictable weather!
The Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties Master Gardeners will hold a free plant clinic. Guests are invited to bring a planter or pot with soil as they receive assistance from the master gardeners on how to create a quaint and cute fairy garden. Reservations are not required.
All attendees will receive a 10% discount on plants. All ages are welcome. Folks are also welcome to bring random plant and gardening questions to get advice from the master gardeners.
The nursery at the winery has a nice array of plants including perennials, shrubs, trees and fruits. All herb starts, vegetables, baskets, planters and annuals are 40% off.
Join the library at the Cultivating Roots Community Garden for stories, art and science projects, tours of the garden, and more! This event is part of Summer Reading, a Timberland Regional Library districtwide program.
Join the Tokeland Fourth of July Parade at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, then picnic on the grounds of the Historic Tokeland Hotel. It’s free to enter the parade (your imagination is the only thing required) and the picnic lunch and games for all ages on the grounds are free, also. Memorial Day weekend May 29th – 30th – 31st will be the first time the Simpson Railroad will be offering locomotive pulled rides. Our “Caboose Hop” will be around the 2.25 mile loop aboard historic 40 year old caboose #201. The 201 and it’s two sisters were the last commercially produced in the United States, marking an end of an era. Scheduled to operate is locomotive #1200 built in May of 1956 making her 65 years old and is still going strong. Caboose 201 was built in June 1981. These two pieces of our museum collection have always been in logging service and represent 105 years of collective history that the Peninsular Railway & Lumbermen’s Museum is dedicated to preserving.
