Movie: “Groundhog Day” @ 7th Street Theatre
Feb 12 @ 7:30 pm
Movie: "Groundhog Day" @ 7th Street Theatre | Hoquiam | Washington | United States

The 7th Street Theatre’s 12th Annual “Take Your Honey to Hoquiam” Valentine’s event features the 1993 romantic comedy, “Groundhog Day,” starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell.

“Take Your Honey to Hoquiam” is a dinner-and-movie promotion that also includes two local florists. When you buy dinner for two at any of the participating restaurants and pubs, or make a qualifying purchase from either florist, during the week of February 7, you will receive two free tickets to the movie. Each participating restaurant and sponsor has 50 free movie tickets available through this promotion.

The participating restaurants and sponsors are: 8th Street Ale House, Al’s Humdinger, Casa Mia, Deidra’s Deli at Farmer’s Market, Foggy’s Bar & Grill, Golden Dragon, Grizzly Den, Harbor Blooms Floral & Gifts, The Jitter House, Passport Café, Rose’s Tienda & Taqueria, Simply Said Flowers, and Simpson Avenue Grill.

“Groundhog Day” is the last film and among the best that director, writer and actor Harold Ramis worked on with actor, comedian and all-around goofball Bill Murray. With a shared legacy that includes the movies, “Caddyshack,” “Stripes” and both “Ghostbusters,” Ramis and Murray had become experts at delivering wildly imaginative, thoroughly enjoyable craziness.

This time out, Murray plays a cynical local TV weatherman who is none too happy with being sent yet again to Punxsutawney, PA, to cover Groundhog Day. Forced by an impending blizzard to stay the night, Murray spends the next day figuring out that, incredibly, ridiculously, he seems doomed to repeat Groundhog Day over and over and over. MacDowell plays Murray’s TV producer and eventual love interest, and as if there wasn’t enough silliness to satisfy everyone, Murray’s old “Saturday Night Live” pal, Chris Elliot, is on board also. Rated PG, the movie is family friendly.

Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. showings. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door. Advance tickets are available at Harbor Drug in Hoquiam and City Drug in Aberdeen, and at www.brownpapertickets.com. For more information call 360-537-7400 or check the website, www.7thstreettheatre.com.

Valentine’s Photos with Sadie Mae @ Off the Walls Gallery
Feb 13 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Valentine's Photos with Sadie Mae @ Off the Walls Gallery | Shelton | Washington | United States

Two inventive businesses, and a very large dog, are hosting fundraisers for the Adopt-A-Pet dog shelter.

Off the Walls Gallery and Sadie Mae Hawkins have teamed up to create a crazy Valentine’s weekend event. Shop owner, Shelly Barnett, is setting up a Valentine-themed photo shoot area in her eclectic art store. Bring your own camera or cell phone and our volunteer photographers will take shots of you and Sadie Mae together. Participation is by donation of cash or bags of dog food.

Who is Sadie Mae Hawkins? Just the most famous dog in Shelton! A gigantic working Cane Corso service dog that just wants to spread love and happiness! Visit her Fan Club Facebook page and come to the gallery for a dog hug and photo.

When you are done there, head around the corner to Smoking Mo’s for their Pints for Pups program and some delicious food. Rent a 24-ounce beer mug for $5 and Mo’s will pass that $5 on to Adopt-A-Pet. Plus, you get an extra 8 ounces of beer with your normal pint purchase – so you get to drink like a Pirate for a good cause. And don’t miss their Tap Takeover with Lagunitas on Feb 24th with a dog food drive. Bring a bag of your favorite dog food and Mo’s will make sure it’s put to good use at Adopt-A-Pet. Smoking Mo’s is at 203 W Railroad Avenue.

Adopt-a-Pet is your local, non-profit dog shelter. In 2015, the team found loving homes for over 300 unwanted, abandoned and abused dogs. If you are interested in volunteering or donating, please visit their website at www.adoptapet-wa.org.
