Razor clam diggers can fill their limits at Copalis Beach over the Christmas holiday now that state shellfish managers have approved a three-day opening.

Jinglelights is a dazzling outdoor, Christmas lights show located in Central Park. Each show lasts 40 minutes and includes 140,000 lights synchronized to cheerful, holiday music. Hot coco and a campfire are usually available for visitors. The show is a fundraiser for the local “Shop with a Cop” program with a donation can on site. The show begins on December 2 and runs through December 27. Community members can enjoy this lively event any night of the week, except Mondays and Tuesdays. Show times are hourly from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with an additional 9:00 p.m. show on Friday and Saturday. Poor weather conditions may require the show to be canceled for a certain night. A memorial service for Quinault elder Phil E. Martin will take place in the gymnasium at 11:00 a.m.

The huge pop culture and marketing sensation that is the new “Star Wars” movie seems ripe for parody. Serial funnyman Mel Brooks had the same thought way back in 1986, when he developed the space opera send-up, “Spaceballs.” That is the first film showing in 2016 at the 7th Street Theatre in downtown Hoquiam, screening at 7:30 pm Friday and Saturday, January 15 and 16.

Released in 1987, “Spaceballs” stars Rick Moranis, John Candy and Bill Pullman, with ample screen time for Brooks. Forget the plot, as it exists only to provide multiple platforms for every kind of joke, jab, insult and other style of film reference, all aimed at sci-fi movies generally and the Star Wars films in particular.  As with all Mel Brooks films, the comedy comes fast and furious, with levels of taste, and/or lack thereof, to appeal to a wide range of non-serious movie-goers.
