Lewis County native Beth Peterson will talk about her new book,“Life After Lightning,” at the McCleary, Elma and Aberdeen Timberland Libraries this August.

The book chronicles Peterson’s near-death experiences, having been twice struck by lightning. The result has been extensive physical and emotional damage, multiple surgeries and a lengthy recovery.

In her book and her public talks, Peterson reveals how she persevered through the pain, grief and loss. She encourages people to live in balance with others and offers insights on topics such as family, spiritual recovery and discovering one’s true direction in life.

Satsop Business Park Walking Tour @ Satsop Business Park

The Port of Grays Harbor is once again pleased to announce that it will be offering public tours of its industrial properties and marine terminals, as well as walking tours of the Satsop Business Park.

The guided walking tours at Satsop Business Park offer an excellent way to explore the unique assets the Park has to offer including the cooling towers, tunnel training facility, warehouses, and office buildings. Comfortable, closed-toed shoes are required for this tour.

Olympic National Forest Sustainable Road System Open House @ Rotary Log Pavilion

The Olympic National Forest is hosting open houses asking the public to share the areas and roads they use on the Forest.  This information will help the Forest identify a financially sustainable road system that meets diverse access needs, minimizes environmental harm, and is safe and dependable because it is scaled to available resources.

“Your participation will help us understand your access needs,” said Forest Supervisor Reta Laford.  “It would be particularly helpful to know what areas you use on the Forest and what roads you use to get there.”

The open houses will be held around the Olympic Peninsula during the summer of 2014.

In addition to attending open houses, the public may provide comments using the web-based map or on-line questionnaire on the Forest website here.  Questionnaires are also available at any Olympic National Forest office.  Comments will be taken until August 31, 2014.

Local naturalist, author and educator Julie Tennis will talk about earthquakes and tsunamis.

On her website, Tennis writes, “my mission is to help people develop a deeper sense of connection and peacefulness in their lives.” Her talk will focus on how an understanding of earthquakes and tsunamis can help people become more resilient when disasters occur.

All programs at Timberland Regional Libraries are free and open to the public.
