Head to the library and sign up for the summer reading program, “Fizz, Boom, Read!” for children and “Spark a Reaction” for teens. Drop by the library, sign up, and pick up your summer fun bag. This event is part of Summer Reading, a Timberland Regional Library districtwide program.

Saddlebag Meet-up @ Grays Harbor Public Market

Saddlebags are backpacks for bicycles.  The idea of these meetings is:

  1. Arrive on a bike
  2. Discuss the route to be ridden
  3. Place the map, paper and writing utensils in your saddlebag
  4. Ride the route, stop and record when needed
  5. Regroup at a designated location to discuss findings

If a person does not want to ride, they are welcome to come for the discussions and either wait for the bike riders to return or walk part of the route.

Father’s Day Fishing @ Vance Creek Pond #2

Just for Dads (and their kids, both young and old!), Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife hatchery crews are stocking 10,000 extra big (1-1/2-pound triploid) rainbow trout in  lakes across the state just before Father’s Day weekend, June 14-15, 2014.  

If you want to join in on the fun with your Dad buy a fishing license online or toll-free 24/7 by phone at 866-246-9453 or at any of our 600 license dealers.

For more information on the lakes listed in the table visit Fish Washington and get the When’s, Where’s and How To’s for fishing in the State of Washington.  If you are interested in finding out how many thousands of fish have been stocked in the lakes mentioned on this webpage in addition to the Father’s Day trout visit our webpage and view the Statewide Hatchery Trout Stocking Plan.

Flag Day Parade @ Ocean Shores

Spend a fun-filled day in Ocean Shores. Watch over 60 floats and entries honoring Old Glory in one of the only Flag Day Parades in Western Washington.

Participating in the parade will be floats and marching bands from Ocean Shores and neighboring communities. Each year as a lead in to the Parade, ACT sponsors a Essay, Poster and Coloring Contest for the Children of the North Beach School District. Children in Pre-School and Kindergarten participate in a Flag Coloring Contest with prizes awarded to each age group.

Children in Grades 1 – 9 may participate in the Poster Contest, these will be judged and first, second and third Place winner for Boys and Girls will be selected. High School Students take part in an optional Essay Contest, this years theme is “What the Flag Means To Me”, the essays are judged and and a First and Second Place Boys and Girls winner is selected.

The winning students receive a check, a trip to Olympia, observation of the Senate in session a meeting with the Lieutenant Governor and a special lunch. Each year more than 150 students compete, the winning students will ride on the ACT float during the parade and the essay will be published in the Local Observer Newspaper.

Have a look around. Parking at the Viking Bowl on Montesano St. will be provided for free. After parking, regular shuttles will arrive courtesy of local taxi service Beach Taxi. Taxi services by Beach Taxi will be available any time by calling 360-581-9270. Parking is very limited in town.
